As we approach a little over one month until the latest iteration of the Call of Duty franchise releases worldwide, data miners have been thoroughly searching through the in-game files on PC. Partners of VG Sources have discovered upon references towards 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 all making their way into Modern Warfare via the brand-new tournament system.
It’s important to notes that some of these could have been included within the in-game files on PC for merely testing purposes. Nevertheless, the references towards 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 tournaments can be found below.

Infinity Ward touched on the built-in tournament system back in July, though since then details have remained scarce. However, the in-game files may have provided indication of what the new feature will entail. The developers showcased a little glimpse of the new aspect to the press a while back, confirming that the system will specifically support Gunfight mode. As to whether or not a tournament system will be implemented for other Multiplayer modes remains to be seen.
Most interestingly, if the system is exclusive to Gunfight, the in-game files could suggest Gunfight will be playable on either 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4. This is far from confirmed, however.
The built-in tournaments will reportedly use a bracket system to determine who advances further into each tournament. The game accurately does the bracket system for you. Of course, if you win you’ll advance into the later rounds, whereas if you lose you’ll presumably be eliminated from the tournament. It’s unclear how many rounds there are within each until the final.
Infinity Ward is yet to clarify whether or not the tournament system will be fully developed for launch. They also haven’t discussed what rewards will be available, though knowing the developers, they’ll probably make it worth your while!
