Rumor: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 in Development as a PS5 Launch Title

A new rumor is currently swirling around on the internet. Although it might seem farfetched, it’s beginning to wrack up quite a bit of attention. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 is supposedly in the works as a PS5 launch title, staring both Nathan Drake and The Last of Us’ Ellie.

There’s no real way to validate this information, so it’s best to take it with a huge pinch of salt. The rumor comes courtesy of an apparent Capcom USA employee who goes by the username ‘Paypaytr’ on Reddit. Without further ado, let’s dive right into what’s supposedly on the horizon.

Slated for release as a PlayStation 5 launch title, Sony and Capcom will allegedly join forces in a bid to create a Super Smash Bros Ultimate type of fighting game called ‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2’. It’s set to debut almost one year later on PC, claims the rumor.

The game was allegedly in the works during 2013-2016, though Sony WWS developers and partners decided to cut development as they were resistant to purchasing licenses.

With the initial game releasing back on November 20, 2012, for PlayStation 3 and Vita, fans might have a rough estimate of what to expect. This time around, however, it appears as though many more characters are set to make their way onto the roster.

The rumor goes onto mention that 24 characters are currently set to arrive on launch, though this can be subject to change. Other characters will also be held back as post-launch content, but nonetheless, the alleged roster is as follows:

It appears as though characters from all over the PlayStation will join forces. Most notably, The Last of Us’ Ellie will be starring alongside other all-time classics such as Crash Bandicoot and Spider-Man.

We can expect several elements of the reported 3D brawler/action/arena title to be reminiscent of its predecessor.

We stress that this is merely a rumor, an official statement remains to be seen. Nonetheless, if this leak is anything to go by, the hype for the PlayStation 5 launch has certainly been emboldened.
