In his October 5, 2026 account, the creature’s staying power and its smaller needle-shooting spores made it a particularly frustrating fight. Those are one writer’s campaign impressions, not verified enemy stats.
What is the “ballsack” enemy in Gears of War: E-Day?
It is a spore maiden: a floating monster described in Zack Zwiezen’s Kotaku article published October 5, 2026. “Ballsack” is the article’s joke nickname, not the enemy’s name.
Zwiezen describes the spore maiden as releasing smaller spores that float around and shoot needles. He says it can keep producing them until the maiden itself is defeated, so the threat is not just the larger enemy but the extra projectiles filling the encounter.
Why does the spore maiden feel so tough?
Zwiezen reports that, on standard difficulty in his playthrough, one spore maiden took more than 200 Lancer bullets to bring down, including many shots aimed at its eye. That is an anecdotal account from one player, not a tested damage threshold or a guaranteed requirement for every encounter.
