Sony has not announced an OLED PlayStation Portal. The current US model remains an 8-inch, 1080p LCD remote player capable of up to 60fps. A report about two model numbers appearing in a Wi-Fi Alliance listing has prompted speculation about revised hardware, but the listing does not confirm an OLED screen, a launch, or even a product name.
What the new PlayStation Portal listings actually show
Notebookcheck reported on October 6, 2026, that model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 had appeared on the Wi-Fi Alliance’s site. The report credits the model-number observation to Zuby_Tech and says the filings may point to revised hardware. It does not establish that either model is a PlayStation Portal, or confirm a display type, Wi-Fi generation, retail name, launch date, price, or region of availability. The OLED possibility remains a rumor, not a Sony announcement. Notebookcheck’s report attributes the earlier OLED claim to hardware insider Kepler_L2.

What Sony confirms about the current Portal
Sony’s current US product page describes PlayStation Portal Remote Player as an 8-inch LCD device with 1080p resolution and gameplay up to 60fps. It streams compatible games installed on a paired PS5 over Wi-Fi; Sony does not describe it as a standalone console. Sony’s product page also lists Cloud Streaming for select games as an option for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
Remote Play and Cloud Streaming have different requirements
- Remote Play: Sony says it does not require a PlayStation Plus membership. A game’s own multiplayer requirements may still call for one.
- Cloud Streaming: Requires PlayStation Plus Premium and is available for select games, according to Sony’s product information.
- Connection: Sony specifies broadband Wi-Fi of at least 5 Mbps and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience. Actual streaming quality depends on the network and game.
The 2026 software update is not evidence of an OLED model
On March 17, 2026, Sony announced a 1080p High Quality mode for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming. Sony says it uses a higher bitrate than the default 1080p Standard mode. The update also included Cloud Streaming interface and onboarding refinements; it was a software improvement for the existing device, not confirmation of new screen hardware. Sony’s PlayStation.Blog announcement also reported that Cloud Streaming monthly users grew 162% year over year in January 2026, based on data from December 2025 to January 2026, and that over 50% of Portal users were PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, using the same period’s data.

Should you buy the current LCD Portal or wait?
If you want a remote screen for a paired PS5 now, assess the current LCD model on its own merits: its 8-inch 1080p display, up-to-60fps capability, and dependence on Wi-Fi streaming. Sony has also added a higher-bitrate 1080p mode. None of those facts tells us whether a possible successor will use OLED or what else it might change.
If an OLED screen is a must-have, waiting for Sony to confirm a product and its specifications is the only way to avoid buying before that question is answered. There is no confirmed successor specification, price, or release window to compare against the current model, so a purchase decision cannot yet be based on a real current-versus-new-model comparison.

What to compare if Sony announces a successor
Do not assume that OLED would automatically mean a higher resolution, faster refresh rate, HDR support, newer Wi-Fi, or longer battery life. Those are separate specifications and remain unconfirmed. A useful comparison will need Sony’s details on:
