Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the commercial case for repeating the approach is real, while its multi-part structure and unusually long-running team make it difficult to reproduce safely. He has not announced a remake of another numbered Final Fantasy.
Why success could make more remakes attractive
Asked whether FF7 Remake’s success makes future remakes more likely or whether the project’s scale makes them too difficult, Hamaguchi answered, “I think both are probably true.” In an interview with Radio Times published October 5, 2026, he said the project had been “very successful” and had contributed significantly to Square Enix from a business perspective. Decision-makers could look at that result and conclude, “Well, you know, it succeeded. Let’s do the same again.”

That is a plausible incentive, not confirmation of a company decision. Radio Times reported Hamaguchi’s qualitative description of the first two entries’ performance, but did not provide a sales total. There is no basis here for turning his assessment into a specific number or claiming that another remake has been approved.
Why the same approach carries risk
The remake trilogy is not simply one game produced as three interchangeable releases. Hamaguchi pointed to the business problem of dividing a single title into installments: if the first does not receive the hoped-for response, the company must decide what to do with the second. A strong result for one project does not remove that risk for another property.

The production conditions may also be hard to copy. In a separate PC Gamer interview published in October 2026, Hamaguchi described a team that had worked together for 10–12 years. He said the trilogy was a useful case study, but questioned whether other teams could recreate that situation. He also remained director throughout because he wanted to continue; another lead might have moved on after the first installment, potentially changing the project’s direction, style or themes.
What Hamaguchi has said about what comes next
Interviews about Final Fantasy VII Revelation describe it as the conclusion of the remake trilogy, not the launch of remakes for other numbered entries. At Tokyo Game Show in September 2026, Hamaguchi said the team had no specific future plans for Final Fantasy VII at that time, while leaving open the possibility that fan response after release could influence what follows, according to OurinSaneblogs. In a September interview with Respec, he likewise said he was not then planning more stories related to the FF7 Remake trilogy, while distinguishing that from the broader future of Final Fantasy VII.

- Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
- Players can switch between two game modes: o "Graphics Mode" prioritises 4K high-resolution graphics o "Performance Mode" prioritises smooth action at 60 frames per second
- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customisable “Photo Mode”
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
Those comments concern FF7 and its trilogy. They do not announce remakes of Final Fantasy VI or any other numbered Final Fantasy game. The clearest answer to whether more remakes are coming is therefore that success could make the idea appealing to company decision-makers, but no broader remake plan has been confirmed.

A remake also requires choices about what to preserve and what to change. In an interview with Video Games Chronicle, Hamaguchi said that trying to apply every extreme positive and negative fan reaction can leave a game without a clear identity. He described the team’s aim as retaining as much as possible from the original FF7 while changing the order of some story beats for pacing. A future project would need its own creative judgment, not just the same release structure.
