One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchAs of the public documentation reviewed for this article, the ps5-linux project does not list the PS5 Pro as a supported console. Its README names PS5 Phat and Slim models with specific firmware versions, but not Pro. That does not prove no private or future work exists; it means you should not assume that instructions for another PS5 model will work on a Pro.
Before considering a Linux project, check the exact console model and firmware against the project’s current support list. Treat storage and peripheral compatibility as separate from exploit or Linux compatibility, and understand Sony’s software terms and update warnings.

Is the PS5 Pro documented as Linux-compatible?
Not in the reviewed ps5-linux project README. Its published compatibility list covers PS5 Phat and Slim models on specified firmware releases from 3.00 through certain versions up to 7.61. It does not name the PS5 Pro. Because the README is community-maintained and may change, check its live support list before relying on it.
Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility page likewise does not list Linux support. Neither source establishes whether an unpublished project exists or rules out future development. The useful conclusion is narrower: the public documentation cited here does not establish PS5 Pro compatibility.
#1 Best Overall
- Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
Check the model and firmware—not just the console name
Compatibility claims are model- and firmware-specific. Compare your exact PS5 model and installed firmware with the project’s current list; support for a Phat or Slim at a particular firmware does not establish support for a Pro, even if the consoles share features or accessories.
- Model: Confirm that the project explicitly lists PS5 Pro, not merely “PS5.”
- Firmware: Match the installed system software to a version the project explicitly supports.
- Method: Check that the documented exploit and payload flow names your model and firmware combination. The README’s instructions for supported hardware are not validation for an unlisted Pro.
The README recommends disabling automatic updates for its documented method. That is a project instruction, not a guarantee of safety, reliability, or compatibility on PS5 Pro.
Why M.2 and USB compatibility do not prove Linux support
Sony’s PS5 Pro setup guidance describes the console’s front USB-C and rear USB-A ports, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, and explains how to transfer an M.2 SSD from another PS5. These are hardware, networking, and storage details—not evidence that a Linux exploit or installation works on PS5 Pro.

The ps5-linux README lists storage and input equipment for the Phat and Slim models it supports. It specifies a USB drive of at least 64 GB, recommends an external SSD, and lists a USB keyboard and mouse. It also describes optional networking through a USB WLAN adapter and connecting a DualSense controller with a Bluetooth dongle. Those requirements should not be treated as a validated PS5 Pro shopping list.
What Sony’s terms and update warnings say
Sony’s US PS5 System Software License Agreement restricts, among other things, using unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software with System Software; bypassing PS5 encryption, security, or authentication mechanisms; reinstalling earlier system software; and exploiting System Software outside the permitted use described in the agreement. The agreement says these restrictions apply to the greatest extent permitted by the user’s jurisdiction. This is Sony’s contractual language, not a universal legal ruling about every person or location.
Sony also says updates may include security patches that prevent access to unauthorized content or use of unauthorized hardware or software. Its agreement warns that updates can change settings, cause data or content loss, or remove functionality or features, and recommends regularly backing up data that can be backed up. The cited sources do not establish a specific warranty decision or outcome for a PS5 Pro Linux attempt.
Quick Recap
Practical decision checklist
- Identify your console and firmware. Use the console’s system information and confirm the exact model and system software version.
- Read the live project support list. Proceed only on the basis of an explicit listing for PS5 Pro and your firmware—not an inference from Phat or Slim support.
- Separate each compatibility claim. Confirm model-specific support independently for the exploit, Linux payload, storage, and peripherals. An M.2 drive or USB device working with the console does not validate the software method.
- Review Sony’s terms and backup guidance. Consider Sony’s stated restrictions and update risks before changing system software or following unofficial instructions.
