If a “Touch of Magic code” won’t work in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you may be using the wrong sharing method. Avatar Codes import a player-character appearance; Touch of Magic designs customize clothing or furniture and are shared through the Boutique during a Valley Visit. They are separate features with separate workflows.
First, identify what you are trying to share

A Touch of Magic design is not imported with an Avatar Code. If you have a clothing or furniture design in mind, skip the avatar-code screen and use the Boutique sharing flow.
If you are importing an avatar, check the code and import route
Gameloft’s Avatar Porting Walkthrough, published September 3, 2022, says an Avatar Code expires after 24 hours and can be regenerated. It also instructs players to enter the code in capital letters with no extra spaces.
- Generate a fresh code: If the code is more than 24 hours old, create another one in the Avatar Designer Tool.
- Copy it exactly: Use the tool’s copy button, then paste the code without spaces. Preserve the capital letters.
- Open the avatar import screen: During new-game character creation, choose Import Avatar. For a character already created in-game, the 2022 walkthrough lists Settings > Help > Import Avatar.
- Make sure you are not in the Touch of Magic editor: That editor customizes clothing or furniture; it is not where an Avatar Code is entered.
The walkthrough is dated, so the listed menu path may have changed. If the option is missing or the screen differs, check the current in-game Help or contact Gameloft Support. The reviewed official sources do not establish a current, cross-platform list of Avatar Code error messages or a current compatibility matrix.

Share a Touch of Magic design through the Boutique
For a custom outfit or furniture design, the documented method is to display the design at the Boutique and let a visitor save it during a Valley Visit. This is not a code-entry process.
Gameloft’s May 2024 update notes three relevant limits: multiplayer requires an internet connection; PlayStation players can visit only other PlayStation players; and Arcade Edition players cannot see Touch of Magic designs in other players’ Valleys. If the design is invisible or the visit cannot be arranged, check whether one of these limits applies.

Do not rely on an old platform note as current policy
The September 2022 Avatar Porting Walkthrough warned Steam players to generate an Avatar Code before purchasing the Steam version, because purchasing it then prevented access to the Steam Avatar Designer Tool. That is a historical instruction from 2022, not confirmation of today’s Steam rules. For a missing menu or platform-specific failure, use current in-game Help or Gameloft Support rather than assuming that old restriction still applies. Gameloft’s official news and updates also document that Touch of Magic has received platform-specific fixes, including in July 2026 patch notes.
