You can also check storage and delete games from your phone, but the app cannot move or copy them.
Before you start: pair the app and prepare your PS5
Sign in to PlayStation App with the same PlayStation account you use on your PS5. In the app, open Settings > Pair Console to App and follow the prompts. If your PS5 does not appear, confirm that both are using the same account, then try pairing again. Sony’s pairing guidance also mentions primary-console activation for PS4; that requirement does not apply to this PS5 workflow. Sony’s PlayStation App support page has the pairing instructions.
For a download to start while you are away, the PS5 needs to be in Rest Mode with Stay Connected to the Internet enabled. Automatic-download setup also matters: Sony says that if automatic downloads have not been set up, a remote download may not begin until the console is next turned on. See Sony’s instructions for automatic downloads and updates.
Enable internet access in Rest Mode
On the PS5, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Stay Connected to the Internet. Keep the console in Rest Mode rather than fully turning it off when you want it to receive a remote download.

Download a purchased PS5 game from your phone
- Open PlayStation App and select Game Library at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Purchased, then choose the game you want.
- Tap Download to Console and select your paired PS5 if prompted.
The app’s library method applies to games associated with your account. If you buy a game in the app, Sony’s instructions are to select and purchase it in the PS Store, then go to Game Library > Purchased and choose the download option. The console must be linked to the account for the remote download workflow. See Sony’s game and add-on download instructions.
Download an add-on
In the app, open the game, select Add-Ons, choose the add-on, and tap Download to Console. Add-ons are reached from the game’s page rather than from the Purchased list’s game-download control.

Check PS5 storage and delete games in the app
- In PlayStation App, open Settings > PS5 Storage.
- Review available space on the PS5 and, if connected, USB extended storage.
- Select the games you want to remove and confirm deletion.
Deleting an installed game frees space but removes its game files from that storage location. Sony states: “Moving and copying games isn’t supported on PlayStation App.” If an M.2 SSD is installed and set as the default location for games and apps, the app may let you choose it as the download destination. If that destination does not have enough free space, the app can offer deletion before the download starts. Details are on Sony’s PlayStation App support page.
What to do when PS5 storage is full
The app is useful for checking space and deleting games remotely, but it is not a storage-transfer tool. Choose a storage option based on whether you need to keep the game installed and whether you need to play it directly from that drive.

| Storage option | What it is for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 console storage | Installing and playing PS5 games. | Space is limited; the app can delete selected games but cannot move or copy them. |
| USB extended storage | Storing PS5 games and playing compatible PS4 games. | PS5 games stored on USB extended storage must be moved back to console storage or an M.2 SSD before they can be played. |
| M.2 SSD | Adding internal storage for PS5 games and apps. | A commercially available drive must meet Sony’s required specifications. The app may select an installed M.2 SSD as the default download destination. |
| PlayStation Plus cloud storage | Storing saved data. | It stores saves, not installed PS5 game files. |
Sony explains storage locations and requirements in its PS5 console storage guide. An M.2 SSD is optional; you do not need one to download or delete games through the app.
Troubleshoot remote downloads
Your PS5 does not appear in the app
- Check that the app and console are signed in to the same PlayStation account.
- In the app, go to Settings > Pair Console to App and repeat the pairing process.
The download does not start while you are away
- Confirm that the PS5 is paired with the app.
- Make sure the console is in Rest Mode and Stay Connected to the Internet is enabled.
- Check that automatic downloads have been set up. Without that setup, Sony says the download may wait until the console is next turned on.
The app cannot free enough space
The app can delete selected games, but it cannot move or copy them. To retain an installed game while making room, manage storage from the console or consider a compatible M.2 SSD; check Sony’s specifications before buying a drive. USB extended storage can hold PS5 games, but those titles have to be moved back to console storage or M.2 storage before play.
