Pull if the featured character fills a role or team gap you care about, works with characters you own or plan to use, and fits your resource budget. Save if your current teams meet your needs or you have a clearer future team goal. There is no universally correct choice: the value of a character depends on your roster, preferred playstyle, and the content you want to play.
Should I pull or save?
Start by naming the problem you want to solve—not by asking whether a character is simply “strong.” You might need more damage, survivability, application, or support, or you may want a character because you enjoy their story or playstyle. Any of those can be a valid reason to pull, but liking a character is a preference, not proof that they will upgrade your team.
Use this checklist to make the choice against your own account:
- Identify your goal. Write down the role, team gap, or personal preference that is motivating the pull.
- Check roster fit. Can you build a team around the character with your current or planned teammates? A character’s usefulness depends partly on whether you can support the role they are meant to fill.
- Try the character. When a Test Run is available, use it to judge whether the controls and playstyle feel comfortable. Test Runs use fixed lineups, so they do not show exactly how the character will perform with your own roster.
- Consider your actual content. Ask whether the character addresses a challenge or play experience you care about, rather than assuming every account needs the same upgrade.
- Weigh the opportunity cost. Decide whether obtaining this character still leaves you able to pursue your stated next goal, or whether saving better serves that goal.
Will this character improve my team?
Compare the featured character with what you already have across the factors that matter to you:

- Role coverage: Does the character fill a gap, or overlap with a role your teams already handle?
- Synergy: Do you own, or intend to build, teammates that work with the character?
- Comfort: After trying the Test Run, do you enjoy the way the character plays?
- Relevant value: Would the character help with the content you actually play?
- Resources and goals: Is the potential pull worth delaying another character or team you have prioritized?
These questions support an account-specific decision; they do not establish a universal damage advantage or a ranking that applies to every roster. Official Wish notices explain banner rules and trials, but do not compare a character’s value for your account.
Check the banner rules and your guarantee counter
Before spending, open the current Wish screen and read that banner’s Details. HoYoverse’s Help Center article, updated September 16, 2025, directs players to the in-game Details page for each Wish. It states that the guarantee count is shared between Character Event Wish and Character Event Wish-2, and is separate from other Wish types. Read HoYoverse’s Wish rules.
Do not assume that a rule for one Wish type applies to another. HoYoverse’s March 1, 2024 Chronicled Wish FAQ describes a separate system: under the rules in that FAQ, a maximum of 90 wishes secures a 5-star item, and Chronicled Path uses a Fate Point when a 5-star item is not the designated item. That FAQ also describes eligibility requirements for event-exclusive 5-star characters. These are Chronicled Wish rules, not the Character Event Wish guarantee; check the live Details page before relying on them. Read the Chronicled Wish FAQ.
Verify what is actually featured
Wish lineups and schedules change. Official notices are tied to specific versions and dates: for example, the Version Luna VI Phase I notice described its own banner and Test Run, while the Version 7.0 notice showed that lineups and featured 4-star characters can change across updates. Neither is a current banner report. Check the in-game Wish screen or the latest official notice for the present lineup, duration, and rules. See the Version Luna VI Phase I notice; see the Version 7.0 notice.
When to pull—and when to save
Pull when
- The character solves a team or role problem that matters to you.
- You can assemble a team that supports the character, or you are willing to build toward one.
- You have tried the character where possible and like the playstyle.
- The pull fits your priorities even after accounting for the next character or team you want.
Save when
- Your existing teams already cover the roles and content you care about.
- You are pulling mainly from fear of missing out, without a team need or personal preference you can name.
- You have a more clearly defined upcoming character or team goal.
- You do not yet know whether the character fits your roster or whether you enjoy playing them.
Pull for a character you want or one who addresses a real need, but keep those reasons distinct: personal enjoyment is enough to justify a personal choice, while a claim that the character strengthens your account depends on your team and goals.
