The best graphics settings are the ones that meet your frame-rate and responsiveness goals without making the game look worse than you can accept. There is no universal preset: the cost and appearance of each setting vary by game, hardware, display, and target. Start from a default or suitable profile, measure a repeatable gameplay scene, then change one setting at a time.
Set a target before changing settings
Write down the game, GPU, CPU, display resolution and refresh rate, and the frame rate you want to sustain. Also note whether the problem is poor image quality, low frame rate, uneven frame pacing, or delayed controls; these are related but not interchangeable goals. A graphics adjustment that improves clarity may cost performance, while a latency feature may change responsiveness without improving image quality.
Use a representative gameplay scene as your baseline. A menu or a single peak-FPS reading may not reflect how the game performs during play. Record average FPS and, if your available tools provide it, 95th-percentile frame time: the latter helps show slower frames that can contribute to a less consistent feel. AMD’s Game Advisor reports both measures, though results from your system and scene are specific to that setup (AMD: How to Use Game Advisor Within Radeon Overlay).
Start from a baseline, then tune one change at a time
Begin with the game’s default settings or a suitable GPU-driver profile. AMD says its default driver settings offer most users a balance of visual quality and performance (AMD: Configure AMD Radeon Settings for Ultimate Gaming Experience). A baseline gives you a meaningful comparison; changing several options together makes it difficult to tell what helped or hurt.

- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
- Run the same scene: Choose a repeatable stretch of gameplay, use the same resolution and settings, and note performance and visual quality.
- Change one setting: If performance is below your target, reduce a demanding option and rerun the scene.
- Keep or undo the change: Keep it only if the improvement is useful and the image remains acceptable. Stop when you reach your target or the visual tradeoff is no longer worthwhile.
AMD’s Game Advisor suggests options such as anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion, render scale, or resolution when performance is weak; it can also generate another report after you make changes (AMD: How to Use Game Advisor Within Radeon Overlay). These are candidates to test, not a ranking that applies to every game.
Which settings should you lower first for more FPS?
Try the settings that are most relevant to your actual problem, one at a time. A label does not guarantee the same visual or performance effect in every game, so judge the result in your own scene.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
- Render scale or resolution: Reducing the amount of detail rendered can improve performance, but the image may look softer or less defined. Check the whole scene, including text and fine detail.
- Anti-aliasing: This reduces jagged edges, but can lower FPS; AMD also notes that it may make the image look smoother and softer. If you turn it down, inspect edges such as fences, wires, and distant geometry as well as overall sharpness (AMD: Configure AMD Radeon Settings for Ultimate Gaming Experience).
- Ambient occlusion: Test whether reducing it makes a worthwhile difference in your game. The available guidance identifies it as an option to try when performance is weak, but does not establish a universal performance cost or preferred setting (AMD: How to Use Game Advisor Within Radeon Overlay).
Do not assume a setting is responsible just because it sounds demanding. If a change does not help in your repeatable scene, restore it and test another option.
How to make a game look clearer—or fix a blurry image
First identify what “unclear” means. Jagged edges point toward anti-aliasing; an image that looks generally soft may be affected by anti-aliasing or by reduced render scale. Compare these separately, because increasing edge smoothing can reduce jaggedness while also softening the picture. AMD describes anti-aliasing as improving edge quality with a possible FPS cost (AMD: Configure AMD Radeon Settings for Ultimate Gaming Experience).

If the game supports upscaling, try its in-game upscaling option and compare the quality presets it offers. AMD directs users to enable FSR in the game’s graphics or video menu and choose an available preset; support and results depend on the game and configuration (AMD FSR Technologies). No one preset is best for every resolution or GPU. Compare fine detail, motion, and performance in the same scene rather than judging from a still image alone.
When to use latency features instead of lowering image quality
If the game responds slowly to controls, distinguish input latency from low FPS or blurry visuals. Latency features target the delay between input and what appears on screen; they are not general-purpose image-quality settings.

- AMD Radeon Anti-Lag: Targets input-to-visual-response lag and works best when the system is GPU-limited. Availability depends on the game and configuration (AMD: Configure Radeon Anti-Lag/Anti-Lag+, Radeon Boost and Radeon Chill).
- AMD Radeon Boost: In supported games, changes resolution in response to user input. That can trade image detail for responsiveness during movement; check whether the game and your configuration support it (AMD: Configure Radeon Anti-Lag/Anti-Lag+, Radeon Boost and Radeon Chill).
- NVIDIA Reflex: Coordinates CPU and GPU work to reduce system latency in supported games and configurations. It is a latency option, not a universal graphics preset (NVIDIA: DLSS / Smooth Motion / Reflex — NVIDIA Driver Installation Guide).
Enable a feature only if your game and hardware support it, then assess responsiveness during play. Do not expect a specific improvement without measurements for the same game and system.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use per-game profiles to keep changes contained
When your driver offers application profiles, use one to tune a particular game rather than changing global settings that may affect other titles. AMD documents per-game profiles alongside global graphics options in Adrenalin Software (AMD: Customize Graphics Settings with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition). Driver menus can change between releases, so follow the labels in your installed version rather than relying on an older menu path.

Keep a short note of the settings you changed and your baseline result. If another game looks worse or behaves differently after a global change, restore the global value and make the adjustment only in the relevant game profile, if available.
A quick decision guide
| What you want to improve | What to test | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| More FPS | Lower one option such as render scale, resolution, anti-aliasing, or ambient occlusion. | Compare the same gameplay scene and check whether the visual compromise is acceptable. |
| Less jagged edges | Adjust anti-aliasing. | Inspect edges and overall softness, then compare performance. |
| A clearer image while using lower rendering resolution | Try an in-game upscaling option and its available quality presets. | Check game support, motion, fine detail, and performance in your configuration. |
| More responsive controls | Check for a supported latency feature such as Anti-Lag or Reflex. | Confirm game and hardware support, then assess responsiveness during play. |
The figures and results from any one game, PC, or vendor tool should not be treated as a promise for another setup. The reliable way to tune is to preserve a baseline, make controlled changes, and keep the combination that meets your own target.
