Its four main entries are Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight. For a first playthrough, the clearest order is release order: Asylum, City, Origins, then Knight. Origins is a prequel, not one of Rocksteady’s three games. The Arkham games are also distinct from LEGO Batman games—and the title alone does not identify which LEGO building set you mean.
What does “Batman: Arkham” mean?
Batman: Arkham is a series of Batman action-adventure video games. The name refers to the games and their shared setting, often called the Arkhamverse; it does not mean the games are LEGO titles. Warner Bros. Games describes Arkham Asylum as the entry that set the stage for that world.

The main story is commonly introduced through four games released between 2009 and 2015. Three were developed by Rocksteady Studios and form the studio’s Arkham story arc. Arkham Origins, developed by WB Games Montréal, is a separate prequel set earlier in Batman’s career.
Which games are in the main Arkham series?
| Game | Release year | Developer | Story position | In the Switch Arkham Trilogy? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Batman: Arkham Asylum | 2009 | Rocksteady Studios | First released entry; Batman confronts a Joker-led takeover inside the asylum. | Yes |
| Batman: Arkham City | 2011 | Rocksteady Studios | Follows Asylum, moving the action to a walled district used to contain Gotham’s criminals. | Yes |
| Batman: Arkham Origins | 2013 | WB Games Montréal | Prequel set several years before Asylum and City, with a younger, less experienced Batman. | No |
| Batman: Arkham Knight | 2015 | Rocksteady Studios | Rocksteady’s conclusion to its three-game Arkham story arc; a threat to Gotham and a drivable Batmobile feature in the story. | Yes |
The trilogy label refers to Rocksteady’s Asylum, City and Knight. It does not mean Origins is unrelated: DC identifies it as an original prequel to Asylum and City. DC lists Origins’ sale date as October 25, 2013, and its original platforms as Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U. DC’s Batman: Arkham Origins page provides those details.

What order should you play the Arkham games in?
Recommended first-play order: release order
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)
- Batman: Arkham City (2011)
- Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)
- Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
Release order lets you follow the series as players first encountered it, then visit the earlier period explored by Origins. It also keeps Rocksteady’s Asylum–City–Knight arc in sequence before the prequel.
If you prefer fictional chronology
Put Origins first, followed by Asylum, City and Knight. DC explicitly describes Origins as set several years before Asylum and City. Both orders are reasonable; choose release order for the original release sequence, or chronological order to begin with the younger Batman.

What is included in Batman: Arkham Trilogy for Nintendo Switch?
Warner Bros. Games’ Batman: Arkham Trilogy for Nintendo Switch contains Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knight, plus all previously released DLC. It does not include Arkham Origins. The original three games were developed by Rocksteady; Turn Me Up Games developed the Switch compilation. The official launch announcement is dated December 1, 2023. Warner Bros. Games’ launch announcement lists the contents and developers.
Physical Switch edition: two games need downloads
The physical edition is not three complete games on the cartridge. The official FAQ says Arkham Asylum is on the cartridge, while Arkham City and Arkham Knight must be downloaded and installed using an internet connection. After those downloads, each game can be played with the cartridge inserted. Check the listing for the edition you are considering, since platform availability and product details can change. Warner Bros. Games’ FAQ, dated June 20, 2023, explains the physical-edition requirements.

Which Arkham games are in the LEGO set?
There is not enough information in the title to identify a particular LEGO building set, so it would be misleading to name an Arkham game or scene as its source. The four Arkham games are separate video games, and a LEGO Batman set should not be assumed to depict one of them without checking its exact product name or set number.
LEGO Batman also appears in a separate video game announcement. On August 19, 2025, the LEGO Group announced LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, a game drawing on Batman’s history across films, television, comics and games and using LEGO humor. That announcement concerns a video game, not evidence that an unspecified building set is based on the Arkham series. The LEGO Group’s announcement describes the project.
