If horror games make you feel dizzy, nauseated, or leave your eyes dry and tired, first reduce camera movement you do not control, then make the screen more comfortable to view. Change one setting at a time, take regular distance-looking breaks, and stop playing if symptoms begin. There is no single field-of-view value or settings combination that works for everyone.
Why horror games can make you feel sick
Motion sickness is commonly explained by a mismatch between sensory signals: what your eyes see may not match what your balance system and body sense as movement. The CDC describes sensory conflict as a widely accepted explanation for motion sickness, but this is general guidance—not a diagnosis specific to horror games. Fast turns, camera shake, bobbing, blur, and automatic camera movement are among the visual effects a player can try adjusting.
Eye discomfort is a separate issue. Extended screen use can contribute to dry or blurry eyes and headaches. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) says people tend to blink less during screen and other near work, which can contribute to dryness. It also says the small amount of blue light from screens has not been shown to harm eyes, and special computer eyewear is unnecessary. AAO: Digital Devices and Your Eyes
Change camera settings that add unwanted movement
Check the game’s accessibility, camera, display, or gameplay menus. Names and availability vary by game and platform. Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117 identifies camera field of view, camera bobbing, motion blur, weapon sway, automatic camera-angle changes, and sensitivity as settings developers can make adjustable. Its guidance supports experimenting with these controls; it does not prescribe one universally comfortable setting. Microsoft Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117

- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
- Turn off camera shake and bob, if available. These effects add movement to the view even when you are not deliberately moving the camera.
- Disable motion blur and weapon sway, if they bother you. These visual effects can make the image feel less stable; whether changing them helps depends on the game and player.
- Reduce automatic camera movement. Look for options that control automatic changes in camera angle or other camera behavior.
- Try lower sensitivity or less acceleration. If rapid turns feel uncomfortable, reducing how quickly the view responds may help you make slower, more controlled movements.
- Adjust field of view in small steps. Test each change during a brief, low-pressure section. The effect depends on the game, display, and player, so do not assume that a wider or narrower view is automatically better.
Microsoft summarizes why these options matter: “This is why intentional decisions around settings related to camera field of view, camera bobbing, motion blur, weapon sway, automatic changes in camera angle, and more are critical when creating more accessible experiences.”
Make the screen easier on your eyes
Adjust your setup for comfort rather than chasing a special screen accessory. The AAO recommends sitting about 25 inches (roughly an arm’s length) from the screen, placing it so you look slightly downward, and reducing glare and brightness as needed. The comfortable brightness depends on your room and display.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
- Take occasional breaks to look at something in the distance. A practical reminder is the AAO’s 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. It is a reminder, not a guaranteed fix or a medically required schedule. AAO: Should You Be Worried About Blue Light?
- Reduce reflections and glare, and set brightness to a comfortable level.
- If your eyes feel dry, artificial tears are an optional way to relieve dry-eye symptoms; they do not treat motion sickness. Follow the product directions and ask a pharmacist or clinician if you are unsure what is appropriate.
AAO’s digital-device guidance reports that people normally blink around 15 times per minute and that the rate can be cut in half during screen or other near work. AAO: Digital Devices and Your Eyes
Use a short test, not a long session, to find changes that help
- Start with a setting that removes unwanted movement, such as camera shake or bob.
- Play only long enough to notice how you feel, then pause. Avoid changing several settings at once; otherwise, it is harder to tell which change made a difference.
- If you remain comfortable, try another adjustment, such as motion blur, sensitivity, or field of view. Keep the changes that feel better and revert those that do not.
- Build in distance-looking breaks and make sure the viewing distance, gaze angle, glare, and brightness feel comfortable.
This is a way to personalize settings, not a proven treatment protocol. Official accessibility guidance identifies adjustable options, but does not establish horror-game-specific clinical results or a universally validated settings recipe.

Stop playing if dizziness or nausea starts
Stop the game and rest rather than pushing through symptoms. Square Enix advises contacting a physician for further guidance if you feel dizzy or nauseous. Square Enix health and safety
Travel-health advice from the CDC and NHS also discusses motion sickness, but recommendations for travel should not be presented as tested ways to prevent discomfort while gaming. If you are considering medication or symptoms continue, ask a pharmacist or clinician for advice. The sources cited here do not establish a particular medication, special monitor, pair of glasses, or single optimal field-of-view value for horror games.
