Is Phoenix Cyclops one character or two?
The name refers to one announced fighter: Phoenix Cyclops, a version of Cyclops inspired by his Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men. Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced him as the first additional Year 1 character. Phoenix Cyclops is not among the 20 characters listed for the launch roster in the official FAQ.
Yamanaka’s July 23, 2026 announcement on the PlayStation Blog mentions optic blasts, hand-to-hand combat and the Phoenix Force; it says more gameplay details would follow. The official video description places the character in a Fall 2026 window, but does not give a specific day.
How to get Phoenix Cyclops
- Own the game on a supported platform. The official FAQ lists PS5 and PC, with PC availability through Steam and Epic Games Store.
- Get the Year 1 Character and Stage Pass. The FAQ says it is included with Digital Deluxe and Ultimate. The Steam listing also sells the pass separately as an add-on.
- When Phoenix Cyclops releases, check your platform store and download or access the add-on. The FAQ says the pass’s additional characters become accessible upon release. The available official materials do not establish an exact Phoenix Cyclops release date or confirm current downloadable status.
If you own the physical PS5 Standard Edition, the FAQ says you can buy a Digital Deluxe or Ultimate upgrade through PlayStation Store and access the additional content after downloading it. The Standard Edition by itself is not listed as including the pass.

Does the match mechanic unlock him?
No. A match team can contain four selected characters, but only the first two start active. The FAQ says the remaining team members can be activated during a match through specified attacks or throws, selected Skill attacks, a successful light-route Link Attack near the screen edge, or by losing a round. That is a battle mechanic for characters on your team; it does not unlock Phoenix Cyclops as downloadable roster content.
