Xbox has announced Project Helix and plans to send developer alpha hardware beginning in 2027; that is not a consumer release date. The Sony Interactive Entertainment newsroom page reviewed here does not establish PS6 specifications, price, or launch timing. If you need a console now, Xbox lists Series X as available for purchase. If you can wait, hold off on choosing between the next-generation systems until both companies publish retail details.
What is confirmed about Xbox Helix and PS6?
Xbox announced Project Helix as its next-generation first-party console in an Xbox Wire post dated March 11, 2026. Xbox says it is designed to play Xbox console and PC games and uses a custom AMD system-on-chip co-designed for next-generation DirectX and FSR. Microsoft Game Development’s contemporaneous article also attributes the announcement to Jason Ronald, Xbox Vice President of Next Generation.
Xbox says it plans to ship alpha versions of Helix hardware to developers beginning in 2027. That is a development milestone, not a stated consumer launch window. The announcement gives no consumer price or retail specifications.
Xbox also describes a planned “order of magnitude leap in ray tracing performance and capability.” That is the company’s claim about a system in development, not an independent benchmark or a comparison with PS6. Its announcement cites more than 1,500 games in the Xbox Play Anywhere catalog and more than 5,000 developers building for Xbox; those are Xbox-published figures, not like-for-like comparisons with PlayStation and not a guarantee that every listed game or developer project will be available on Helix.

The Sony Interactive Entertainment newsroom page reviewed for this article displayed 2026 news and releases but did not establish PS6 product details. That supports a limited conclusion: the reviewed page does not confirm a PS6 price, retail specification, or consumer launch date. It does not prove that Sony has made no announcement elsewhere. No rumored name, date, price, or specification should be treated as confirmed on this basis.

Should you buy a console now or wait?
Buy now if you need a system before the next generation
Xbox lists Series X as available for purchase and says it is compatible with thousands of games across four Xbox generations. That makes it a current Xbox option for someone who does not want to wait. It is current-generation hardware, not a substitute for Helix or evidence about its performance or compatibility. The Xbox product page does not establish your local stock or a live price, and the information reviewed does not compare Series X’s value with current PlayStation consoles.
Wait if your choice depends on the next generation
If your decision hinges on price, graphics performance, launch timing, or whether your existing game library will carry forward, wait for official retail information from both companies. Xbox’s developer-alpha plan does not tell buyers when Helix will go on sale. The reviewed sources do not establish a PS6 release window either.
