Mario Kart World’s roster guide lists 50 playable drivers: 24 main racers and 26 other drivers, including characters it describes as NPC drivers. It also reports 103 alternate outfits for the 24 main racers. These counts and unlock details come from a third-party guide, not an official Nintendo roster or unlock list, so treat the procedures below as guide-reported rather than guaranteed current behavior.
How the roster is divided
The guide separates drivers into “main racers” and “other drivers.” The latter group includes familiar Mario characters and creatures that the guide calls NPC drivers. It reports 50 playable drivers in total: 24 main racers and 26 other drivers.
Main racers
The guide lists 24 main racers. It says seven are unlocked by completing specified Grand Prix cups; the remaining racers are not identified as cup unlocks in its roster summary.

- Yoshi
- Donkey Kong — listed as a Grand Prix cup unlock
- Bowser
- Bowser Jr. — listed as a Grand Prix cup unlock

The guide’s available summary does not identify which specific cup unlocks each of those seven characters.

Use custom items to focus on Kamek
The guide says its recommended approach is available in VS mode after the version 1.40 update. It suggests custom item selection so Kamek is enabled while other items are disabled. This reduces competition from other item effects; the guide does not establish that the setting or method is unchanged in every later game version.
- Open VS mode and set up a race.
- Open custom item selection and leave Kamek enabled while disabling the other items, as described by the guide.
- Choose a course or biome associated with the driver you want, using the guide’s suggested locations where available.
- Race until Kamek appears, then use the transformation and check which driver was unlocked.
The guide lists specific suggested courses for several drivers, but its available summary does not include those course-to-character pairings. It also does not establish a guaranteed number of attempts, so the method should be treated as a targeted chance rather than a certainty.

How to unlock alternate outfits
The guide reports 103 alternate outfits across the 24 main racers. Its general method is to collect and use Dash Food. It says the food type and surrounding area can influence the outfit received, making both the shop and location relevant when you are seeking a particular look.
Guide-reported food and location examples
- Touring outfits: associated with a hamburger shop at Mario Bros. Circuit.
- Pro Racer outfits: associated with a cake shop in Crown City.
- Happi, Yukata, Matsuri, and Fisherman outfits: associated with a candy apple shop at Cheep Cheep Falls.
These are examples from the guide, not an independently verified complete outfit-to-food index. It does not provide a character-by-character list of all 103 outfits in the available material.

What is confirmed, and what to verify in-game
The detailed roster and unlock claims available here come from a third-party Mario Kart World guide. A secondary listing identifies the game as a Nintendo Switch 2 release dated June 5, 2025, but neither source is official Nintendo confirmation of the current roster or unlock mechanics. The specific cup pairings, all 11 Kamek-unlock names, and the complete outfit mapping are not established by the available guide summary. Check the current game behavior if an unlock or location differs from these guide-reported suggestions.
