Alternate routes in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO are found in Episode Battle: make different story choices, meet certain battle objectives, or reach a different outcome. Use the story map to track your progress and return to earlier decision points. The exact trigger varies by fight, so a choice alone may not be enough to unlock a route.
How Episode Battle branches work
Episode Battle follows eight character campaigns: Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks, Goku Black, Frieza, and Jiren. Bandai Namco Europe’s Game Modes Handbook, published 2024-11-10, explains that choices and secondary objectives can change the story. As the handbook puts it, “Completing secondary objectives during each battle can also influence the characters and lead to different outcomes.”

That means a branch can involve both narrative and combat: choosing an alternative dialogue option may put you on a different path, while a battle objective or outcome can determine whether that path continues. Check the mission details for the fight you are playing rather than assuming every alternate route requires a fast victory or a particular move.
How to find and revisit alternate paths
- Open Episode Battle’s story map. It gives a visual overview of your progress and the available paths.
- Look for earlier decision points or incomplete branches. The story map is designed to let you revisit previous choices.
- Replay the relevant battle and inspect its objective details. Follow the listed conditions; the required objective differs by encounter.
- Choose the alternate response when prompted, if the route calls for one. Then complete the battle objective needed to carry the branch forward.
Bandai Namco’s handbook confirms the story-map and branching mechanics, but does not provide a complete list of per-fight triggers. If a path does not appear, revisit the mission details or consult a current walkthrough for that character and battle rather than relying on a general rule.

What-If and Sparking Episode pathways
Dexerto’s guide, updated 2024-10-11, reports 14 Sparking Episode pathways across the eight campaigns. This is a secondary guide’s enumeration; Bandai Namco’s handbook confirms the branching system but does not publish this same route list.

Dexerto’s October 2024 guide also says that lowering Episode Battle difficulty prevents access to Sparking Episodes, and recommends leaving the difficulty at its default setting if you are trying to unlock them. The official handbook does not state this condition, so treat it as Dexerto’s guidance rather than a separately confirmed publisher rule. Printed route reference
For players who prefer a book, Shueisha’s Japanese-language V Jump Books guide advertises coverage of all Episode Battle routes and IF branches. The publisher lists it as a 192-page book, published 2024-10-10, ISBN 978-4-08-779821-0. Its included digital code expired 2025-10-09, so do not count on that bonus being usable. Check language and retailer availability before buying. Details are on Shueisha’s listing.

Bandai Namco has published post-launch material, including a February 2026 free-update notice and a press-assets listing that identifies Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC as available 2026-07-30. Those notices establish that the game received later content; they do not document changes to the original Episode Battle route triggers.
