As of October 4, 2026, six games on this list have specific October release dates, one is listed for October without a day, and three are still marked TBC 2026. Those windows can change; a TBC listing is not a confirmed launch date. The picks range from licensed survival horror to detective stories, action-focused hybrids, and experimental indie games.

Upcoming horror games with specific October dates

The dates and platforms below follow the listings available as of October 4, 2026. Confirm regional store listings before planning a purchase, since release dates can move.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival — October 8

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X. Style: First-person, single-player survival-horror action set in the Hellraiser universe. Saber Interactive Game Director Emil Esov confirmed the PS5 date in the PlayStation Blog announcement; the broader date and platform listing appears in GamesRadar+’s 2026 horror roundup. This is the clearest choice here for players looking for a recognizable horror franchise and a first-person action format.

Silver Pines — October 8

Platforms: PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X. Style: Investigation and exploration. Detective Red Walker searches for a musician in a near-abandoned town, using scavenging, resource management, puzzles, and exploration, according to GamesRadar+. Its detective premise makes it a more measured alternative to action-led horror.

  • For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
  • An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
  • Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.

Valor Mortis — October 13

Nowhere — October 14

Platforms: PC. Style: Mystery-first atmospheric horror. The game pairs detective work and Norse mythology in a deserted village, with item examination and deduction described by GamesRadar+. The available description supports calling it an investigative mystery, not comparing it to a particular established detective game.

Project Songbird - PlayStation 5
  • A dark, enthralling 4-5 hour narrative to keep you hooked and guessing until the end. Gorgeous visuals as you traverse numerous and diverse environments, presented with a cinematic, film-like aesthetic. Ranged and melee combat with upgradeable weapons to help you survive your nightmarish journey.
  • A stellar voice cast, starring Valerie Rose Lohman (What Remains of Edith Finch, Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reload, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei).
  • A beautifully dynamic and haunting soundtrack composed and performed by Jacob Noska, and Jonah Henthorne: members of the band Auric Echoes.
  • The puzzles you encounter are more than your standard key hunt. Project Songbird rewards those with an eye for detail, making each puzzle a challenge of creativity and wits.
  • The combat of Project Songbird offers a variety of approaches inspired by the classics of the survival horror genre. Melee and gunplay is slow and weighty, and ammo is incredibly scarce. However, combat isn't your only option, as you have a multitude of tools at your disposal to aid in sneaking past any creatures that wish to do you harm.

Tenebris Somnia — October 16

Platforms: PC. Style: 2D, 8-bit survival horror. GamesRadar+ describes puzzles and combat alongside live-action cutscenes, giving this entry a deliberately retro look with a cinematic contrast.

Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy — October 27

Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X. Style: Modern survival horror inspired by classic horror games. The official Remothered game page describes it as the conclusion to the Red Nun story, and GamesRadar+ lists the October 27 date and platforms.

Cronos - PlayStation 5
  • Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.
  • Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.
  • The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.
  • The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others - through a grotesque process called Merging - to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.
  • This physical edition of Cronos: The New Dawn comes with bonus in-game content and a set of collectible stickers.

Neverway — October 2026

Resident Evil 4 - PS5
  • Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
  • Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
  • Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
  • Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Guns of Eschaton — TBC 2026

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S. Style: First-person soulslike shooter with horror elements in a post-apocalyptic western. The description in GamesRadar+’s roundup suggests a strong action focus alongside its horror setting.

Dreadline Express — TBC 2026

Platforms: PC. Style: Narrative-led train horror. A card mechanic can affect the story, according to GamesRadar+, making this a distinctive option for players drawn to narrative choices rather than a conventional combat pitch.

How to choose from this list

  • For a major horror license: Start with Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival or Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy.
  • For investigation and atmosphere: Silver Pines and Nowhere foreground detective work, exploration, or deduction.
  • For combat: Valor Mortis and Guns of Eschaton lean toward action, though the latter’s date remains TBC.
  • For unusual formats: Tenebris Somnia combines retro 2D presentation with live-action cutscenes; Neverway blends farming and crafting with horror; Dreadline Express uses cards to affect its narrative.
  • For a story about protecting someone: The Road of Dust and Sorrow is the clearest fit in the available descriptions.

Notable 2026 horror releases that are no longer upcoming

Two prominent games should not be counted as remaining 2026 releases as of October 4. SILENT HILL: Townfall launched September 24, 2026, on PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store, according to Konami. Resident Evil Requiem was scheduled for February 27, 2026, according to Capcom.

For Townfall, Writer and Director Jon McKellan of Screen Burn Interactive described the design goal as combining an explorable new town, enemies to fight or evade, and story-driven puzzles in a distinctly Silent Hill mystery. That is the developer’s description of the game’s intent, not a claim about how it plays. PlayStation Blog, February 12, 2026.
