Nintendo of Canada later said retail preorders would begin April 24, 2025. The console launched June 5, 2025, so both dates are now historical.
Why April 2 was reported as the preorder date
On March 27, 2025, IGN reported that Best Buy Canada had briefly published a page listing April 2 as the date Switch 2 preorders would open, then removed it. Because the page is no longer available and no preserved official Best Buy statement establishes the date, April 2 is best understood as a reported retailer listing—not the final preorder date. Nintendo’s confirmed Canadian dates
On April 18, 2025, Nintendo of Canada announced: “Retail pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will begin in Canada on April 24, 2025.” Nintendo also said, “We apologize for the retail pre-order delay.” Its announcement set the Canadian launch date for June 5, 2025. Nintendo of Canada’s announcement
That makes April 24 the official Canadian retail preorder date, rather than the April 2 date attributed to the briefly published Best Buy page. Best Buy Corporate later described preorder pickups and limited walk-in consoles, games, and accessories for launch; those were launch-week arrangements, not evidence of current stock.
