To survive Cold Snap in ARC Raiders, keep outdoor exposure brief, watch for frost and freezing breath, and head indoors or heal when the cold starts to show. Snow reduces visibility, frozen water makes footing unsteady, and Embark warns that frostbite can kill in minutes. The developer has not published an exact frostbite countdown or damage rate, so treat the visual cues as warnings—not as a timer.
What Cold Snap changes
Cold Snap is a weather condition that changes the risks of moving across outdoor maps. Snow compromises visibility, frozen water makes footing unsteady, and exposure brings frostbite risk. Embark warns that a Raider caught outside without shelter or quick healing can be cut down in minutes, but it does not give a universal time-to-damage figure.
That combination makes route and fight choices important: poor visibility can complicate movement, while slippery frozen water and time spent outdoors add danger. Embark specifically warns that being pinned in the open during a fight with other Raiders can be fatal in the winter condition. See the Cold Snap announcement.
How to recognize worsening cold

- Frost appearing on your clothing.
- Your Raider’s breathing becoming more intense as core temperature drops.
- Breath visibly freezing in the air.
Gameplay Programmer Fredrik Åhström explains: “When you see your breath freezing in the air that means you are getting colder.” Use these signs as a reason to change plans and seek shelter or healing; the tips do not define a precise threshold at which damage begins.
How to manage exposure and recover
- Plan around shelter. Favor routes that let you get indoors rather than committing to a long exposed crossing.
- Carry bandages. Embark recommends bringing them and healing quickly when necessary.
- Do not linger outdoors in a fight. If a fight leaves you pinned in the open, prioritize breaking away toward shelter instead of extending the exposure.
- React to the cues. Frost on clothing, heavier breathing, or freezing breath indicate that you are getting colder; do not wait for an unpublished countdown.
An unnamed Gameplay Engineer says, “Being on fire is the fastest way to warm up.” Embark’s tip does not identify a specific item or describe a universally safe way to use fire, so it should not be read as a detailed recovery procedure.

Movement and distractions during encounters
Because snow compromises visibility and frozen water makes footing unsteady, avoid treating the fastest-looking route as automatically safest. Account for exposed stretches and icy footing, and keep a path to cover in mind before a fight starts.
A Code & Animation Tech offers one situational way to influence an encounter: “Throwing Snowballs on alarmed cars can create a noise distraction to divert the ARC away from your location”. Cold Snap loot, blueprints, and Candleberries
Light-related loot and the Firework Box blueprint
Embark’s December 2025 tips say light-related objects, including light bulbs and candle holders, appear more commonly during Cold Snap. The same article says firecrackers and fireworks can be found in any map condition, while the Firework Box blueprint is exclusive to Cold Snap. These are different claims: the ordinary fireworks are not condition-exclusive, but the blueprint is.
Where Candleberries grow
Candleberries come from evergreen bushes with bright red fruit. Game Designer Andreea Dragoman describes the plant as evergreen and bearing bright red fruits; World & Level Designer Marika Ohlsson says the bushes can usually be found around smaller structures, rocky areas, and other foliage. That gives you useful search terrain, not a guaranteed spawn point.

What changed after the winter event
The Flickering Flames event ran from December 16, 2025, through January 13, 2026, and let players exchange Candleberries and special items for rewards including Raider Tokens, items, utility items, weapons, cosmetics, and Merits. That was a dated event, not an ongoing reward promise.
In its February 10, 2026 update, Embark said Cold Snap had returned to the rotation on outdoor maps with increased loot value. It also said Candleberries remained collectible but were no longer tied to an event. For current availability, check the official ARC Raiders site or the in-game schedule: a Europe-region schedule observed on October 7, 2026 did not list Cold Snap, but that single observation does not establish its status in every region or at other times.
