Roblox said it could take account action, including termination, when it detects use of a modified Roblox client. Its May 30, 2025 update added a narrow exception: someone with edit permissions may use a modified client in that specific place while testing there. That is not general immunity, and the compatibility comments about tools such as Bloxstrap and Linux were statements about Roblox’s position at the time—not guarantees about how those tools work today.
What Roblox announced about modified clients
In a May 6, 2025 Developer Forum announcement, Roblox said it was rolling out automated checks that could result in action against accounts detected using modified clients, up to and including termination. Roblox described a modified client as either a custom version of the Roblox application binary downloaded from a third-party website or an official Roblox application altered at runtime by an external tool.
The announcement said the checks focused on modified binaries, which Roblox characterized as a common way to cheat, exploit, or steal account information. Roblox said using them was prohibited under its Community Standards category “Evading Safety and Security Systems.” The announcement described multiple layers of automated checks refined over several months and said the system had been used during The Hunt: Mega Edition before being rolled out full-time across users and experiences. Roblox called it “a highly effective tool” for preventing exploits during that event, but published no numeric effectiveness result.
How the creator-testing exception changed
The answer depends on the date and on the user’s permissions for the particular place being tested. Roblox’s initial May 6 FAQ said users in a group that owned an experience would not receive consequences for modified-client use in that experience, while users testing in someone else’s experience would. A May 30, 2025 update broadened the stated eligibility to anyone with edit permissions for a place, while making the exception place-specific.

“As of today, anyone with edit permissions for a place will not be actioned against if we detect them using a modified client in that place only.”
Roblox explained that this was to let creators test anti-cheat systems in their own experiences. The exception described in the update does not cover modified-client use in other places simply because the user has edit permissions somewhere.

How to assess a tool or workflow
Roblox’s FAQ distinguishes tools that modify client code from tools that use official mechanisms, and makes the testing exception depend on permissions in the specific place. For a workflow, the relevant questions are:
- Does it change the client? The policy description includes modified binaries and official applications altered at runtime by external tools.
- Are you testing in a place where you have edit permissions? The May 30 no-action statement applies only to detected use in that place.
- Does the tool use an official mechanism such as OAuth? Roblox said tools communicating with its systems through official mechanisms would not be affected by this policy, which targeted tools modifying client application code.
What Roblox said about Linux, Bloxstrap, and multiple clients
These answers come from Roblox’s May 2025 FAQ, not a current compatibility audit. Roblox cautioned that third-party software might stop working as Roblox changes, even where it did not expect this policy change to affect it directly.

What users should do if they are concerned
- Download Roblox from an official source. The announcement named roblox.com, the App Store, and Google Play as examples.
- Avoid software that claims to modify Roblox. Roblox warned that exploit software can contain malware that compromises system security or steals account information.
- If you believe an account action was made in error, use Roblox’s Violations and Appeals page. The announcement names this route but does not explain its process or likely outcome.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The post is evidence of what Roblox said in May 2025: its definition of modified clients, its planned automated enforcement, the place-specific testing exception, and its answers about certain workflows. It does not establish present-day compatibility for Linux, Bloxstrap, or other third-party software, nor does it report a quantified enforcement success rate. Treat its software compatibility comments as dated expectations rather than current guarantees.
