The best ghost games depend on what you want ghosts to do: Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD makes them comic capture targets, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective builds a puzzle mystery around the supernatural, FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse turns them into survival-horror threats, and Phasmophobia makes investigating them a cooperative job. For a thematic rather than literal pick, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut uses “The Ghost” as Jin’s identity, but it is an open-world action adventure—not a ghost story.

Best for comic ghost-catching: Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD
In Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Luigi explores ghost-filled settings with the Poltergust 5000. That makes it the clearest pick here if you want ghosts to be the focus without choosing a conventional horror game. Nintendo’s official game page lists the Switch edition.
Best for a supernatural puzzle mystery: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is an HD remaster of the 2010 game created by Shu Takumi. It uses supernatural ideas in service of a mystery and puzzles, rather than centering a repeatable ghost-hunting or survival-horror loop. Choose it if you want to solve a story-driven mystery more than face scares. Nintendo’s official store listing identifies the Switch version.

Best for ghost-centered survival horror: FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is the strongest fit here for players who want ghosts to be frightening enemies. Originally released in Japan in 2008 as the fourth FATAL FRAME entry, it has players investigate and fight ghosts using the Camera Obscura and a flashlight. Nintendo’s official Switch listing describes those core tools and the game’s premise.
The series’ camera mechanic is designed to make confronting a ghost feel uncomfortable rather than safely distant. In a GamesRadar interview feature published July 31, 2025, creator Makoto Shibata said, “This game started with the idea of creating a horror game where the scariest thing possible is the enemy. For me, what I feared most were ghosts, much more than monsters.” He also explained the camera choice: “You need to look straight at something scary, and then draw it in as close as possible in order to photograph it, so we thought it would really bring out the scariness of the ghosts.” These are Shibata’s remarks as reported by GamesRadar, not a primary transcript. Another series option: FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Black Water
FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Black Water also centers on using the Camera Obscura against vengeful ghosts. KOEI TECMO’s official game page describes the camera as a way to repel ghosts and seal their powers. Check the store for your region before choosing an edition, since the cited official page does not establish current regional platform availability.
Best for co-op ghost investigation: Phasmophobia
Phasmophobia is built around investigating ghosts rather than simply capturing or fighting them. Its Steam description presents players as a team collecting evidence with ghost-hunting equipment. The Steam listing is the relevant PC storefront source.

The PlayStation Store describes the game as a four-player online co-op psychological horror game and lists more than 20 ghost types, each with different traits, personalities, and abilities. That count is a feature claim on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s storefront listing, not an independent tally. Check the PlayStation Store listing for its platform and regional details.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut belongs only if you mean “ghost” thematically. Jin adopts the identity “The Ghost,” but Sony describes the game as an open-world action adventure; it is not centered on literal ghosts. Sony’s official product page lists PS4 and PS5 editions and explains Jin’s identity.
