To beat the Chapter 2 Tiger Vanguard at Crouching Tiger Temple, dodge through his full attack strings, then use short, well-timed punish windows instead of committing to long combos. Watch carefully when he turns to stone: he may counter if you strike the statue, or reappear at range with a powerful punch. Dodge his blood waves and tornadoes rather than trying to deflect them with a staff spin.

Where to find this Tiger Vanguard
The encounter covered here is the mandatory Chapter 2 boss at the entrance to Crouching Tiger Temple. A separate boss with the same name appears in the Kingdom of Sahali, so do not apply this fight’s location, rewards, or tactics to that encounter. How to approach the fight
Think in terms of complete attack strings, not apparent pauses. The Vanguard can delay a hit or extend a sequence after seeming to stop, so wait for the actual end of the animation before attacking. A safe learning loop is to observe a string, dodge its full sequence, and take a short punish once it ends. This is a synthesis of the guide’s tactics, not a claim of personal testing.

Use Thrust Stance if you want extra reach and a quick heavy attack. When the boss backs away, you can charge while watching his approach; a well-timed heavy attack as he charges may stagger him and interrupt his next combo. This is an opportunity, not a guaranteed counter to every move.
Recognize his attacks and respond
| Attack or behavior | What to do |
|---|---|
| Diving smash | Dodge the landing, then reposition or take a brief opening after the animation finishes. He may leap after a short forward charge. |
| Punches, kicks, and diagonal strings | Keep dodging through the whole sequence. These can include a petrified-fist strike, a delayed sweep, jumps, and a diving smash; do not assume the first pause is the end. |
| Sword strings | Continue evading through the charged slash or the slashes and spinning delay. Attack only after the final hit has passed. |
| Stone form | Do not attack the statue: the guide warns that this can trigger a counter. If wind signals that he is relocating, track his position and prepare to dodge the long-range punch when he reappears. |
| Blood waves and tornadoes | Dodge or sprint clear. The Gamepressure guide says spinning the staff will not block these projectiles. |
Choose punish windows without getting greedy
The gap after a string may not be long enough for a full light-attack combo. If the boss is recovering only briefly, use a shorter attack and be ready to evade again. A full string’s finisher can stagger him, but its longer animation leaves you committed for longer; use it only when the opening looks safe.

Cloud Step can create a brief safer window during an aggressive sequence, with an opportunity to counter using Unveiling Strike. The fight has one phase, according to the Gamepressure guide, so there is no later phase for which you need to reserve a transformation. Use transformations when they help you manage pressure rather than saving them for a phase that does not occur.

The temple Tiger Vanguard drops Keeness of Tiger, one of two keys needed for the door in the Second Prince of Flowing Sands’ arena, as well as the Rock Solid spell.
