Pokémon Sage is a fan-made, original Pokémon RPG that grew out of a collaborative project on 4chan’s /vp/ board. Its public demo is an unusually substantial glimpse of the project: the developers’ page describes roughly 10 hours of play, original Pokémon and a region inspired by Latin America. It is also an old build, so approach it as a historical demo—not a finished release or a reliable picture of the project’s current development.
What is Pokémon Sage?
Pokémon Sage began as CAPX, short for “Create a PokédeX,” a community effort to design original Pokémon. The CAPX Wiki dates its start to October 2012 and says the project moved beyond creature design into building a game around those creations. In early 2015, development moved from 4chan to private channels, according to the CAPX Wiki’s About page.

Sage is a fan project, not an official Pokémon game. The project describes it as a self-contained RPG with an original setting, characters and Pokémon. That makes its appeal less about extending the official canon and more about seeing how a community-built take on Pokémon can shape its own world.
What makes its world and design distinctive?
Urobos and an original Pokédex
The game is set in Urobos, a fictional region drawing on Latin American geography, culture and history. Project materials describe a roster of more than 200 new Pokémon. That combination gives Sage a clear identity beyond swapping in a few fan-made creatures: its setting and cast are designed as part of a separate adventure. Generation V-era mechanics
The project says Sage is a 2D, sprite-based game made with RPG Maker XP and Pokémon Essentials, rather than a ROM hack. Its design aims to resemble Generation V Pokémon games. The wiki says later additions such as Fairy type, Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves are not planned. These are project-level design descriptions; they should not be taken as a guarantee that every planned element appears in the public demo.
What does the public demo include?
The demo page identifies the available public build as Demo 2.0.6, released October 26, 2017. It describes a feature-complete slice with approximately 10 hours of content, 117 of the project’s 229 Pokémon, six towns and cities, three gyms, main story events, optional side quests and walking Pokémon. Those figures come from the project’s demo page; playtime will vary, and they describe that build rather than a current release.
There is an important distinction between the demo and development documentation. The wiki explicitly says the public demo is not the latest state of development. Newer wiki material may describe work or plans beyond what a player can access in the 2017 build.

How do you play the demo?
- Use the project’s demo page for its download and instructions. The page lists Demo 2.0.6, dated October 26, 2017.
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
- Run Game.exe. The project says an emulator is not required because Sage is not a ROM hack.
Windows is the project’s documented development and testing platform. The demo page offers Wine guidance for Mac and Linux, but describes those setups as less stable and not the developers’ tested target. It also says Windows or antivirus software may flag Game.exe because its publisher is unverified. That is the project’s explanation, not an independent assessment of the file’s safety. The download’s current availability, integrity and compatibility have not been independently verified here.

Is Pokémon Sage still in development?
The sources do not establish the project’s present development status or release plans. An archived April 1, 2016 post attributed to a Sage team member said development was being suspended after the team fractured, while leaving open the possibility of continuing later. That post records the situation at that time; it does not establish whether development resumed or what the team is doing now. The CAPX Wiki presents itself as documenting development, but its documentation is distinct from a playable, updated build.
