It follows David Mason and a JSOC team to Avalon, where a mission involving the Guild draws them into a conflict tied to Raul Menendez. Endgame turns Avalon into a repeatable cooperative activity: build strength during a run, then extract to carry its run-specific progress forward.
One important change since launch: finishing the first 11 campaign missions was originally required to unlock Endgame, but Activision made Endgame and Avalon instantly accessible to all Black Ops 7 players on November 21, 2025.

What is the Black Ops 7 campaign story?
Set in 2035, the campaign follows David Mason as he leads an elite JSOC team on a covert mission to Avalon. The team uncovers a plot involving the Guild and is pulled into a conflict connected to its past. Raul Menendez returns as a central antagonist, while Emma Kagan is among the characters introduced in the reveal. The premise links events from Black Ops II and Black Ops 6; the details here stay at the setup level rather than spoiling later story events. Activision’s reveal and Xbox Wire’s launch coverage describe the setting and characters.
The campaign is mission-based and supports solo play or cooperative play with up to four players total. Its story missions are distinct from Endgame, the repeatable activity set across Avalon.

How does Endgame access work now?
At launch, Call of Duty Staff’s November 10, 2025 Endgame guide said players had to complete the first 11 co-op campaign missions to unlock the mode. Activision later changed that rule: its Season 01 announcement says Endgame and Avalon became instantly accessible to all Black Ops 7 players as of November 21, 2025. The 11-mission requirement is therefore the launch rule, not the current access rule documented in those official posts.
What do you do in an Endgame run?
Endgame is a cooperative, replayable campaign activity set across Avalon. The launch guide describes a design for 1–32 players, divided into squads of up to four. Players deploy by wingsuit, explore on foot or in vehicles, and choose whether to pursue assignments separately or join forces in more dangerous areas. Objectives, intel, and enemy encounters help squads build power while they contend with escalating exposure zones and Guild command centers.

Choose an Operator, loadout, and abilities
At the start of a run, choose an Operator and loadout. The launch guide lists a main weapon, melee weapon, Field Equipment, and a Field Acquisition: a weapon brought forward from an earlier run that you successfully extracted from. Workbenches let you improve weapon rarity and damage. You also select a Major and Minor ability to shape your approach.
Raise Combat Rating and select Skills
Combat Rating rises as you complete objectives, gather intel, and defeat enemies. The launch guide says it can progress up to level 60; as it rises, you earn Skills from six tracks: Gunner, Surgeon, Daredevil, Tactician, Berserker, and Bulldozer. These upgrades belong to Endgame’s run-level system, rather than replacing the account progression you earn across modes.

Decide when to extract
Exfil is the run’s key risk-and-reward decision. A successful extraction preserves the current loadout and Combat Rating for a future push into harder areas. Call of Duty Staff’s launch guide warns, “If you’re killed in action, you lose it all.” In context, that means the state earned during that Endgame run—not all persistent account progression disappears.
How does progression work across campaign and Endgame?
There are two progression layers to keep separate: Endgame’s temporary run state and the broader account progression connected to play across modes.

Endgame run progression
Combat Rating and Skills improve during a run. Extracting successfully carries the current Combat Rating and loadout into future Endgame pushes; failing to extract risks losing that run’s earned state. This is why extraction timing matters even when a squad has made substantial progress.
Cross-mode account progression
Official Black Ops 7 materials say campaign and Endgame activity can contribute to player XP, weapon levels, camo unlocks, and Battle Pass progress. Activision Support explains that progression follows an Activision account across linked platforms. Its progression guide describes 55 standard levels and Classic Prestige at level 55. Entering Prestige resets player level and relocks many level unlocks, with stated exceptions that include weapon progression, camos, challenge progress, and Operator and Emote unlocks.

At launch, the campaign had a dedicated weapon-camo track with 16 unique Military, Special, and Mastery camos. The launch guide also says weapon camos and challenges continue through co-op and Endgame, and describes camo tracks for the 30 launch weapons. Those are launch-era details; seasonal additions and reward availability may change.

Choose the campaign for the narrative and mission progression; choose Endgame when you want repeatable squad-based objectives and are willing to manage the risk of losing progress earned during a run.
