Players have reported blurry textures and slow texture loading on Lost Island on PlayStation, but the clearest official fix is narrower: a January 5, 2022 PlayStation update addressed creature level-of-detail textures specifically. That note does not confirm that every terrain, structure, or general texture problem was fixed on every console or current build.
What console players reported
In a December 2021 thread on Studio Wildcard’s official community forum, a PS5 player described textures disappearing or degrading during play. Another participant said restarting could improve performance but did not resolve slow texture or model loading, and reported similar behavior on PS4 and PS5. These are individual accounts, not an official diagnosis or a measure of how common the issue was. Read the forum discussion.

A separate January 2022 Steam discussion described blurry terrain, ground cover, and structures whose texture quality seemed to cycle. That report came from a PC player; it does not establish the cause or prevalence of the problem on consoles. Read the Steam discussion.
What the PlayStation patch actually fixed
The PlayStation patch-history entry for version 698.25, dated January 5, 2022, says: “Fixed an issue where creature textures (LOD’s) were not loading correctly on Lost Island.” See the PlayStation patch history.
#1 Best Overall
- Use cunning strategy and tactics to tame, train, ride and breed the 100+ dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the dynamic, persistent ecosystems across land, sea, air, and even underground Build your character's strengths and gain items, skills, and pet creatures using in-depth role-playing systems
- Start a tribe with hundreds of other players to survive and dominate competing tribes...and ultimately discover ARK's true purpose
- Build a fire or shelter, then craft customizable clothing & armors to help protect against damage and extreme temperatures on your way to unlocking advanced technologies and equipment
- Chop down trees and mine metal and other precious resources to build massive multi-leveled structures composed of complex snap-linked parts
That statement identifies a specific issue with creature level-of-detail textures. It is not a blanket confirmation that terrain, structures, or all texture loading problems were fixed, nor does the historical note establish the status of every console version or installed build today. Check the update history for your platform and confirm the game is current before treating this particular patch note as applicable.
Is there a workaround?
Restarting the game
One forum participant reported that restarting improved performance but did not solve slow texture and model loading. Treat that as a limited player observation, not a confirmed texture fix.

High Quality Materials is a PC report, not a console fix
In the Steam discussion, one PC player said enabling “High Quality Materials” and restarting stopped texture cycling for them, but cost an estimated 5–10 FPS. The same player said verifying game files and changing texture quality had not helped. These are anecdotal PC results, not tested or guaranteed console steps. The ARK Official Community Wiki’s settings reference primarily concerns PC options; do not assume a PC setting exists on your console. Review the settings reference.
What to check before troubleshooting
- Identify whether you play on PS4, PS5, Xbox, or PC; reports and settings for one platform do not establish a fix for another.
- Note what looks wrong: creature textures, terrain, ground cover, or structures. The PlayStation patch note specifically names creature LOD textures.
- Check your installed game version and platform update history. The cited PlayStation entry is from January 5, 2022, not proof about every later or different console build.
- For console-specific symptoms, avoid applying PC graphics-menu instructions unless the option is actually present in your version.
Should you buy hardware to fix it?
The cited reports and patch history do not show that replacing a console, adding external storage, changing a display or controller, or buying a physical copy fixes this software rendering issue. No hardware purchase is substantiated as a remedy here.
