Battlefield 6 has four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. Pick Assault to pressure objectives, Engineer to repair or counter vehicles, Support to sustain and protect infantry, or Recon to scout and spot enemies. Those are role-based strengths, not rules that force you to use one weapon in every playlist: weapon access depends on whether the experience uses open or closed weapon rules.
Battlefield 6 class comparison
| Class | Squad contribution | Signature weapon and trait | Signature gadget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assault | Pushes through defenses and applies infantry pressure around objectives. | Assault Rifle, with faster draw and sprint timing and better sprint recovery; Mission Focused speeds objective interactions and captures for nearby squad members. | Adrenaline Injector: temporarily boosts sprint speed, reduces explosive damage, protects against debuffs and helps the user hear enemy footsteps. It does not grant extra health. |
| Engineer | Challenges enemy vehicles and repairs friendly vehicles, equipment and weapon placements; EA identifies Engineer as the only class able to perform those repairs. | Submachine Gun. | Repair Tool: a blowtorch that repairs friendly vehicles and can damage enemy assets. |
| Support | Provides healing and supplies, deploys cover and intercepts enemy grenades and missiles. | Light Machine Gun. | Supply Bag: resupplies nearby infantry with gadgets and weapons and helps health regenerate more efficiently. |
| Recon | Scouts and gathers information through stealth, spotting and long-range play. | Sniper, which can stabilize aim while holding breath and rechamber more quickly; Auto-Spot marks hostiles seen while aiming down sights. | Motion Sensor: detects moving nearby enemies, vehicles and gadgets. |
EA’s class overview and class guide describe these roles and abilities. Treat the descriptions as guidance about what each class brings to a squad, not as a requirement to play a particular way.
Which class should you choose?
Choose Assault to push objectives
Assault suits aggressive infantry play: use its mobility to move into contested areas and its Mission Focused trait to speed objective interactions and captures for nearby squad members. The Adrenaline Injector adds temporary movement and defensive benefits, but not extra health.
Choose Engineer when vehicles matter
Pick Engineer if your squad needs friendly vehicles, equipment or weapon placements repaired, or if you want to challenge enemy vehicles. EA describes Engineers as the only class able to repair friendly vehicles, equipment and weapon placements.

Choose Support for squad sustain
Support is the practical choice when teammates need supplies and healing support, or when cover and interception of incoming grenades and missiles matter. Its Supply Bag can resupply nearby infantry with gadgets and weapons.
Choose Recon to improve the team’s information
Recon fits scouting and long-range play. The Motion Sensor detects moving nearby enemies, vehicles and gadgets, while Auto-Spot marks hostiles you see while aiming down sights. Spotting can help teammates understand where threats are rather than relying only on direct engagements.

How class loadouts and weapon rules work
EA describes a loadout as a customizable set built around a class, with weapons, gadgets, a grenade and a training path. Loadouts have two gadget slots plus the class signature gadget. Each class has two Field Specs: one available by default and another unlocked through a class assignment. See EA’s loadout and weapon classes guide for the system details.
- Open-weapon experiences: any class can equip any weapon type.
- Closed-weapon experiences: class-specific weapons apply. EA’s loadout guide also lists Carbines, DMRs and Shotguns as available alongside the class signature weapon in the experiences it describes.
Most modes use open weapons by default, according to EA, but playlist rules can vary. Check the mode or playlist details in game before planning a loadout around a weapon restriction.

Season 5 announcements and what to verify in game
EA’s Season 5 community update and season outlook announced upcoming class-training-path adjustments involving survivability, armor, revives, spotting and anti-vehicle play. The outlook also announced removing the Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate training paths; moving Support’s Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher and Recon’s Drone into the loot pool; and replacing those items with Supply Pouches, Deployable Cover and a Handheld Jammer, respectively. EA said the full breakdown would arrive in update notes before the season went live.
The community update separately specified starting gadgets for REDSEC: Engineer with Repair Tool and M136 AT; Support with Supply Pouch and Deployable Cover; and Recon with T-UGS and Mobile Jammer. These are REDSEC starting-gadget details, not a definitive description of standard multiplayer loadouts. Since these were announced plans in EA’s materials researched October 4, 2026, consult the final update notes and your current in-game loadout screen for what is live in your mode.
