Adamantine Slag is not a crafting material in Baldur’s Gate 3. It is a common miscellaneous item with no practical use; the Adamantine Forge takes Mithral Ore instead. You can encounter the slag in Grymforge near the rubble-clearing scene.
What does Adamantine Slag do?
Nothing useful: the item’s description says, “It is too small and damaged to be of any kind of use.” The game lists it as a common miscellaneous item worth 1 gp and weighing 0 kg (0 lb). Those are inventory properties, not a description of real-world adamantine. The item entry distinguishes it from Mithral Ore, which is used by the forge.
Where to find Adamantine Slag
Look around the rubble blocking the route in Grymforge during the “Get Past the Rubble” quest. The item entry lists two ways to encounter it:
- It can be obtained from Herdmaster Skarjall as he has Deep Rothé break the wall.
- It can be found in a pouch near the wall entrance.
There is also a dialogue clue: asking Skarjall why the duergar are there and passing a DC 15 Persuasion check prompts him to show the party a piece of slag. That conversation points toward the nearby adamantine deposit; it does not make the slag a crafting ingredient. The quest entry covers this interaction.

Can you use Adamantine Slag in the Adamantine Forge?
No. The forge requires one Mithral Ore and one mould for each item. Slag cannot substitute for the ore. The game provides two pieces of Mithral Ore, enough to craft two items from the available options. The forge entry lists these six choices:
- Adamantine Longsword
- Adamantine Mace
- Adamantine Scale Mail
- Adamantine Scimitar
- Adamantine Shield
- Adamantine Splint Armour
You can make two items of the same type if you have the matching mould, or choose two different items.

How to operate the Adamantine Forge
- Place Mithral Ore in the central crucible.
- Place your chosen mould in the mould chamber.
- Lower the platform.
- Open the lava valve.
- Use the forge hammer lever to shape the item.
- Collect the finished item from the mould chamber.
To craft a second item, eject or reuse a mould and repeat the process with the second piece of Mithral Ore. If you raise the platform before making that item, lower it again before continuing.

Keep it if you want the inventory item or its small listed sale value; otherwise, it is safe to treat it as junk. It is not needed for the Adamantine Forge, and you will need Mithral Ore for forging.
