You can earn some Battlefield 6 character skins through in-game assignments and Campaign Challenges without buying a Battle Pass. Other cosmetics are tied to seasonal Battle Pass rewards or limited-time promotions. There is no verified complete catalog of every outfit or a definitive list of which past rewards remain obtainable, so check the current Assignments and Battle Pass menus for the rewards available to you.
How to unlock character skins without buying a pass
Start with the Assignments menu and read each objective and reward in game. EA’s Initiation Challenges guide describes daily and weekly challenges, persistent assignments, Unit assignments, Career Rank Class Challenges and Weapon Challenges. These routes do not all reward cosmetics: many class and weapon challenges focus on functional gear or weapon unlocks.
Unit assignments
EA says Unit assignments focus on particular modes or playstyles and reward character skins: “Over time, you will chip away at progress for Unit assignments, which are focused on specific modes or playstyle expertise and reward with Character Skins.” Progress depends on meeting the assignment’s stated conditions; EA’s guide does not provide a complete item-by-item list of skin rewards or requirements.
Daily, weekly and persistent assignments
These provide additional challenge progression. Review the objectives before a match and prioritize ones that overlap—for example, where the game’s listed requirements let the same mode or playstyle contribute to more than one assignment. The reward for each assignment is the one shown in game; do not assume every challenge grants a skin.

Campaign Challenges
EA says Campaign Challenges can award four character skins, alongside other rewards. Check the Campaign Challenges menu for the specific objectives and rewards available in your game.
How seasonal Battle Pass skins work
A Battle Pass is a seasonal route, not a permanent catalog. EA’s season announcements show themed reward paths that include soldier skins, but each example applies to its named season. Confirm the active season’s rewards and access requirements in the Battle Pass menu or on EA’s Battle Pass storefront.
Progressing through the pass
EA describes Battle Pass Points progression through Weekly Challenges and XP. Seasonal materials also describe tier skips as a progression option. Advancing through tiers and being able to claim a reward are separate matters: paid ownership is required for paid-tier rewards. Check the live season’s terms and reward track rather than assuming that every tier is free or that every pass works identically.

- MORE WAYS TO BATTLE: Victory, however you envision it; Seize glory in iconic, large-scale modes including Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush; Fight in iconic locations all over the world including Cairo, Brooklyn, Gibraltar and more
For historical context, EA’s Season 2 explainer, dated February 17, 2026, described themed paths with soldier skins and Battle Pass progression. Its rewards are a Season 2 example, not a current-season offer.
Season-specific character unlocks
Some seasonal rewards can be playable characters as well as appearances. EA’s Season 3 Battle Pass article, dated May 12, 2026, said: “You can play as Dagger 1-3 beyond the Battlefield 6 Campaign in Multiplayer, REDSEC Battle Royale and Gauntlet, and Portal across both games through owning the Season 3 Battle Pass and progressing through its tiers.” That is a Season 3-specific unlock example, not a rule for every character.
Is Battlefield Pro necessary?
No general unlock guide can establish that a premium upgrade is necessary for a particular skin without checking that season’s reward track. EA’s Battlefield Pro storefront describes a premium seasonal option with instant unlocks, tier skips and an exclusive bonus path. Benefits and pricing can change by season; inspect the current offer and compare its rewards with the free challenge routes and the standard pass before purchasing.

Can promotions unlock skins?
Promotions can offer cosmetic rewards, but the located EA example is historical. EA’s Open Beta Twitch Drops page, dated August 4, 2025, required linked EA and Twitch accounts and set watch-time goals for rewards during the open beta. Its claim window was limited, so it is not evidence that those beta cosmetics can still be claimed.
Can you unlock every faction outfit this way?
No complete faction-by-faction outfit catalog or definitive legacy availability list is established by the official pages cited here. They include examples of NATO and Pax Armata characters and seasonal content, but those examples do not establish the unlock route for every outfit. A character’s faction or visual theme alone is not evidence of how to unlock its skin. Check the current in-game Assignments and Battle Pass menus, and the official EA storefront, for items currently offered.

Choosing a route for a specific cosmetic
- Want to avoid a purchase: Check Unit assignments and Campaign Challenges first, then review other assignment rewards.
- Have a seasonal reward in mind: Confirm that it appears in the active Battle Pass, whether it is on a free or paid track, and the season’s deadline.
- Found a promotion online: Verify its dates and claim requirements on the official promotion page; past events do not remain claimable by default.
- Looking for an older outfit: Search the current in-game menus and official store. The cited sources do not settle whether every past reward can return or be obtained later.
EA’s Battlefield 6 purchase page describes game editions and included digital content, but it does not establish a physical product that helps unlock cosmetics.
