For a strong start in Digimon Story Time Stranger, scan enemies before moving on, check both Attribute and Element matchups, and treat Digivolution as a route you can revisit—not a one-way choice. Equipment, Attachment Skills, DigiFarm training, and Agent Skills give you several ways to shape your team as you progress.
Scan enemies to build your roster
Battle scans are a core way to recruit Digimon. As you fight an enemy species, its scan rate rises. At 100% or higher, you can convert the data into a Digimon; Bandai Namco says the resulting Digimon will be stronger as the scan rate approaches 200%. That describes a strength gradient, not a requirement to reach 200% for every species. Bandai Namco’s official guide explains the threshold and conversion system.

In practical terms, pay attention to species you encounter and decide whether to keep building their scan data before leaving an area. The publisher describes more than 450 Digimon to discover, tame, and bond with, so scanning gives you a way to expand your options rather than relying only on your initial roster. That figure is a publisher-reported content count. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement gives the count.
Check Attribute and Element as separate matchups
Before choosing an attack, consider two different systems: the Digimon’s Attribute and the skill’s Element. They are not interchangeable charts. The producer’s example for Attributes is Virus being weak to Vaccine, Vaccine being weak to Data. In that example, a Vaccine Digimon attacking a Virus opponent receives a +100% damage bonus. A favorable Element matchup can increase damage further. Lead Producer Ryosuke Hara’s combat overview describes both layers.

Use the information shown in the game to check the target’s Attribute and the Element of the skill you plan to use. The producer’s overview does not provide a complete matchup chart, so don’t infer every relationship from the examples above.
Experiment with Digivolution paths
Digivolution is not a single linear ladder. Each Digimon has conditions for its available forms, and the route you take can be revisited: you can de-Digivolve to a younger form and work toward another branch. An early evolution therefore does not necessarily lock you out of every alternative.

Personality matters as you develop a Digimon. The producer says there are 16 personality types, which affect stat growth, skill acquisition, and evolution conditions. Treat an evolution choice as part of ongoing team development; if you want to pursue a different route, use de-Digivolution rather than assuming the first branch must be permanent. The official sources do not establish a universally best personality or evolution path.
Use setup and training systems for different jobs
Several systems support team growth, but they serve different purposes. Use battle setup to tailor a Digimon to an encounter, and use training systems to develop stats and bond over time.

Nintendo’s US listing says the demo covers the opening chapter and that its save data transfers to the full game. Completing the demo also opens a Central Town Adventure Trial with selected areas and dungeons; progress from that trial does not transfer. If you want to continue in the full game, distinguish the opening chapter save from the additional trial data. Nintendo’s US listing describes the demo and transfer limits.

Know which platform version you’re playing
Bandai Namco currently lists the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. Nintendo treats the Switch 2 software and Switch software as separately sold versions. Its US listing says save data can move between Switch and Switch 2 consoles, but not between the Switch software version and the Switch 2 software version. Check the exact software edition when purchasing or planning a save transfer; “Switch” alone can be ambiguous. Bandai Namco’s game page lists platforms, and Nintendo’s listing explains the version distinction.
What’s next for the game
Bandai Namco has announced Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, an expansion planned for 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The announcement says it takes place three years after the battle with the Olympos XII and adds more than 50 Digimon; the timing is a plan, not a dated release.
