The April 10, 2025 release adds visual updates, technology-tree interface changes, balance work, maps, fixes and new tools for scenario and random-map creators. The “legendarily long” description came from the team’s earlier March preview, not the final release announcement.
What is Update 141935?
Update 141935 is a free update to the existing game, not a separate expansion. The Age DE Team described it as “our largest ever update for AoE II: DE” in its April 10, 2025 release notes. That is the team’s characterization; the announcement does not define a measurement for “largest.”
The phrase “legendarily long” appeared in the team’s March 11, 2025 preview, which presented work in progress and said an exact release date was not yet available. The final notes followed on April 10.
What changed for players?
New visuals and interface updates
The preview announced 25 new castle visuals, giving each civilization its own castle, and six monk visuals. Elite unique units received distinct visuals from their non-elite counterparts, alongside monastery visuals. The preview also described a new monk conversion animation, with the former animation used for healing, and attack animations aligned with attack timings. These are announced changes, not independent measurements of their in-game effect.

The release announcement also highlights technology-tree interface changes. It renames the Mayans and Incas civilization labels to Maya and Inca, and adds a Chicken player-profile icon earned by playing 175 games.
Balance changes and fixes
The notes include gameplay fixes, including a rare case in which Town Centers did not auto-attack enemies in range and incorrect cost or speed for Elite Battle Elephants. One listed balance change lowers Scorpion and Heavy Scorpion attack while increasing their bonus attack against infantry and elephant units. The notes do not establish broader competitive effects or win-rate changes.
Rank #2
Assisted farm placement performance was improved. The team says this change does not affect multiplayer latency behavior.
Maps and creator tools
The update adds maps and content supporting random map scripting, the Scenario Editor and modding. Campaign creators can use multi-sequence slideshows and conditionally include or exclude sequences according to campaign variables or player settings.

What was not included?
The March preview also teased a separate upcoming expansion with five new civilizations playable in ranked multiplayer. Those civilizations were not part of Update 141935; the preview announced them as expansion content.
There was also a change between preview expectations and the shipped notes: the previously announced campaign civilization change from Tanguts to Khitans was postponed because of technical issues, according to the April release notes.

How to check for and install the update
The April release notes give platform-specific update instructions for Microsoft Store, Steam and the Xbox app for Windows. After updating, check the game’s title screen: it should show Build 141935.
- Microsoft Store: Open the Store and check for game updates.
- Steam: Use the game’s Steam library page to download the update.
- Xbox app for Windows: Check the app’s game library for the update.
These are the platforms covered by the publisher’s instructions; consult the official update post for its specific steps.
What if the game will not launch or mods stop working?
The team warns that custom mods may not be compatible with the new build. If the game has problems after updating, its suggested first troubleshooting step is to disable installed mods. If the game will not launch after downloading the update, the post recommends adding or re-adding the game client or folder to firewall and antivirus exceptions. That is publisher guidance, not proof that every launch failure has the same cause.
