Sultai Arisen is the clearest pick if you want a flexible graveyard deck: a May 2026 ranking by Position Is Everything names it the overall winner. That is an editorial verdict, not a demonstrated power result: the article provides no comparative playtest data or win rates. The right choice depends on whether you prefer graveyard recursion, spell-slinging, combat, defenders, or dragons.
How reliable is the published ranking?
Position Is Everything’s May 20, 2026 article says Sultai Arisen is its overall winner and Jeskai Striker is its weakest choice. It cites factors such as consistency, reliance on the commander, card quality, impact at the table, replay value, and upgrade potential, but gives no reproducible scoring method, head-to-head results, or win rates. Its discussion is incomplete or generic in places, so the intermediate ordering is not consistently supported by named, deck-specific comparisons.
Use that ranking as one writer’s opinion, not a proven power tier. The more dependable way to choose is to match each published list’s apparent game plan to the kind of Commander game you enjoy. Wizards’ official decklists establish the products, commanders, and cards; they do not establish comparative performance.
What are the five Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks?
Wizards announced five ready-to-play decks, each based on one of Tarkir’s clans. The names and list features below describe their published contents, not tested results.

Which deck should you choose?
Choose Sultai Arisen for the graveyard plan
Sultai Arisen is the most defensible recommendation if you want to set up the graveyard and reuse resources: that is the strategy the published ranking praises, and the official list includes graveyard-oriented cards. Position Is Everything also points to graveyard hate and slower starts as vulnerabilities. Those are the ranking author’s assessment, not outcomes established by comparative testing.
Rank #2
- PLAY THE VILLAIN—Bring the might of the Marvel Universe to the battlefield as you combat your friends with a deck featuring your favorite Marvel villains
- ALL SHALL KNOW DOOM—Harness the power of Doctor Doom and enact your master plan. The connive mechanic either strengthens your Villains or drains life from the whole table. Submit yourself to Doom!
- 30 NEW COMMANDER CARDS—Each ready-to-play deck includes 30 Commander cards entirely new to Magic: The Gathering
- FOIL BORDERLESS COMMANDER—Command your deck in style with 1 Legendary Creature card featuring Borderless art and a shiny Traditional Foil treatment
- EPIC MULTIPLAYER BATTLES—Magic’s most popular multiplayer play format, Commander is an action-packed, free-for-all battle full of strategic plays and social intrigue (best with 3–5 players)
Choose Temur Roar for dragons and ramp
Temur Roar’s list pairs dragons with ramp cards and features Ureni of the Unwritten and Eshki, Temur’s Roar. It is the natural fit if you would rather build toward large creatures than center your plan on spell sequences or graveyard value. The ranking article presents it as a satisfying large-creature option, but its exact placement is not consistently clear.
Choose Jeskai Striker for spells
Jeskai Striker’s list supports a spells-focused direction, with Shiko and Narset, Unified or Elsha, Threefold Master among its commanders. The ranking article calls it fun but inconsistent and names it as its weakest deck; treat that as the author’s judgment rather than a measured comparison.
Rank #3

- CONTENTS—100-card Blight Curse deck with 12 new cards (including 2 foil Mythics), deck box, 10 double-sided token cards, strategy insert, reference card
Choose Abzan Armor for defenders
Abzan Armor stands out for its substantial defender and Wall package, with Felothar the Steadfast and Betor, Ancestor’s Voice in the list. It offers a distinct starting point if you want defensive creatures to shape your game. The ranking source does not consistently establish a named position for it, so assigning it a precise ordinal would go beyond the available evidence.
Choose Mardu Surge for a proactive board plan
Mardu Surge features Zurgo Stormrender and Neriv, Heart of the Storm among its commanders. The ranking article discusses a proactive battlefield strategy and room for upgrades, but does not consistently connect its generic ranking discussion to a clearly named position. Choose it for the clan and play style, not an assumed slot in a definitive power list.

What does “best out of the box” mean here?
There is no substantiated strongest-to-weakest performance order in the available coverage: no comparative win-rate figures, power scores, or documented head-to-head playtests are provided. A defensible choice instead separates the list’s visible identity from a ranking writer’s evaluation.
- Game plan: Start with the list features in the table and decide which sounds enjoyable to pilot.
- Commander dependence: Consider how comfortable you are with a plan that may rely on keeping a particular commander available. The ranking article names commander dependence as a criterion but does not provide a consistent measured comparison across all five decks.
- Upgrade direction: The ranking praises Sultai Arisen’s flexibility and upgrade potential, but does not establish a tested upgrade path for every deck. The official lists are the factual starting point for evaluating changes.
- Table and group fit: Commander games vary by table. The supplied coverage does not report matchup data, so it cannot show how one of these decks performs against your regular opponents.
