What counts as a consumable in Once Human?
Community reference pages use “consumable” broadly for usable items, including food and non-food items. They describe consumables that restore Energy, Hydration, or Sanity, as well as items that grant effects. This is community-maintained categorization, not an official exhaustive taxonomy: the Consumable category, Food and Water, and Buffs and Effects.
For a practical search, distinguish between what an item restores and what it does after use. A food or drink may serve a meter-restoration purpose, provide an effect, or be relevant to both. Check the item’s current in-game description for its exact effect, duration, recipe, and availability; community pages may not reflect the latest build.
What food and drink effects are documented?
In its version 3.0.4 announcement on August 24, 2026, Once Human’s official update notes state: “Generally, only food dishes provide combat stats buffs (except Whimsy Drink and Whimsical Drink).” The stated exceptions are those two named drinks; the general rule is not that every dish grants a combat buff. Sparkling Pumpkin Soup
The same update says Sparkling Pumpkin Soup was changed to restore Energy. The notes describe this as a correction after it had incorrectly applied a beverage-stat buff. Use the current in-game item description for its present effect.

When choosing between items, compare the details that matter for your situation rather than relying on a list title alone:

- Effect: Does it grant a combat-stat buff or another effect?
- Duration: How long does the effect last?
- Preparation: What ingredients and crafting station does the recipe require?
- Availability: Is it usable in the mode or scenario you are playing?
- Interaction: Does its effect stack with another consumable or replace it?
The community references are useful starting points for categories and examples, but their item details are not confirmed as synchronized with the latest game build. The official notes cited here establish specific balance rules, not a full catalog of current recipes, effects, or durations.
How do creative cooking and the Chef class change food use?
Official version 2.3.8 notes dated May 13, 2026 describe creative cooking as a way to choose ingredients beyond fixed recipes. Glutton’s effect limit
The same update describes the Chef class’s Glutton trait as allowing its users to benefit from up to two food effects and two drink effects simultaneously. That limit is specific to the trait as described in those notes; it should not be assumed to apply to every character. These are dated patch details, so later game updates may change them.
