This guide separates the verified launch count from Operators documented in later season announcements, and explains what those announcements do—and do not—say about current unlock availability.
Who are all the Operators in Black Ops 6?
The official launch announcement confirms 21 Multiplayer Operators at release, split between Rogue Black Ops (11) and Crimson One (10). It does not establish every name in the full launch roster in the material available here, so this guide does not fill gaps by guessing.
Activision’s Beta article names 12 characters, but explicitly presents that lineup as partial—not as the complete launch roster:

Adler, Park, Brutus, and Klaus were identified in that Beta article as Vault Edition Operators. The Beta list should not be used as a substitute for the complete launch roster. Activision’s launch announcement gives the faction totals and explains that some Operators were immediately selectable while others required an in-game challenge or Vault Edition purchase.

Which faction is each Black Ops 6 Operator in?
At launch, the two factions were Rogue Black Ops and Crimson One. They frame the Multiplayer conflict between Adler’s rogue team and the CIA-backed operation pursuing it. The official launch counts are 11 Rogue Black Ops Operators and 10 Crimson One Operators. The Beta names above have faction assignments in Activision’s Beta article; the later seasonal announcements summarized here do not provide a complete faction assignment for every added character.
Some collaborations introduce guest characters, and a seasonal announcement may describe a character without assigning it to either launch faction. Treat a guest character’s faction as unspecified unless the in-game Operators menu or an official source gives one.

Which Operators were added after launch?
Official announcements document selected additions through Season 5 (2025). The table records the release route described in each announcement; it is a historical snapshot, not confirmation that a past pass, event, or store offer is still obtainable.

How do you unlock Operators in Black Ops 6?
Unlock methods vary by character. Activision’s progression guide says Player XP earned in Multiplayer and Zombies unlocks Operators and other items, with individual Operators tied to level milestones. Other launch Operators were immediately selectable, challenge unlocks, or Vault Edition content. Later releases used Battle Pass, BlackCell, bundles, and event rewards.
- Progression: Earn Player XP in Multiplayer or Zombies and check the in-game progression track for the relevant level milestone.
- Challenge or edition: Check the specific Operator entry; the launch announcement says some required an in-game challenge or Vault Edition purchase.
- Seasonal content: A Battle Pass, BlackCell offer, bundle, or event reward may have been the original route. The season announcement does not prove that the offer remains available now.
For the launch progression explanation, see Activision’s progression guide. For availability in 2026, rely on the current in-game menu or a current official store notice rather than an old seasonal announcement.

Is an Operator the same thing as an Operator skin?
No. An Operator is a playable character; a skin is a cosmetic appearance for a character. Seasonal announcements may introduce a new Operator, offer one or more skins for an existing Operator, or do both. For example, the Season 5 announcement distinguishes its new Operators from additional skins for existing characters. Count the character once rather than treating each skin as another Operator.
Do Black Ops 6 Operators carry into Black Ops 7?
No. In an August 2025 community update, Activision said Black Ops 6 Operators, skins, and weapons would not carry forward into Black Ops 7, while the content would remain usable in Warzone. Warzone’s separate skin-display options do not establish the complete Black Ops 6 Operator roster. See Activision’s carry-forward update.
