Use your combat loop and content target to narrow the options: campaign or leveling, endgame farming, and a specific UVH level do not automatically call for the same setup. Also weigh execution difficulty and gear specificity against your preference for damage, safety, and movement. The available build coverage spans different targets, including level 60/UVH6 and level 70/UVH7, so do not treat them as directly comparable rankings.

Why Remote Agent fits
For a newer player specifically looking for cannons, begin with a Peacebreaker Cannons and Remote Agent gun build. PC Gamer describes Remote Agent as the gun-and-cannon tree with Overdrive synergies, making it a sensible entry point for ranged play without requiring a shift to melee. Rafa’s Overdrive activates through an Action Skill, increases damage from all sources and movement speed, and does not lose duration while an Action Skill is active, according to that guide. Check the live skill text before investing, since balance changes may affect details.

Gear as a starting recipe
PC Gamer’s Bullet-Buddy setup names Peacebreaker Cannons and Remote Agent, with Hot Slugger, Lucian’s Flank, Kaoson, Instigator, and Firewerks among its gear. Use those names to orient your search, not as a promise that every item is required or remains optimal on the current patch. The guide dates to September 2025, while official Rafa class-mod changes arrived in the later Version 1.6 notes.
Other Rafa playstyles
Arc-Knives: close-range melee
This Year’s Gimmick supports an Arc-Knives melee or hybrid direction. It is a distinct choice for players who enjoy closing distance and staying active in combat, rather than a small variation on the cannon build. The available guide outlines the archetype but does not establish a current, patch-verified skill allocation.
People Person: elemental and ammunition focus
People Person is described as more elemental and ammunition-oriented, making it a fit for players who want their gun loop to emphasize those mechanics. APOPHIS Lance builds sit within this broader specialized territory. Exact skill choices and current damage rankings are not established by the available coverage, so inspect the in-game descriptions and your own weapon behavior instead of relying on an old fixed allocation.
Tediore reload: gear-dependent loop
Community build coverage includes Tediore reload options for endgame and farming. Their performance may hinge on specific weapon rolls and enhancements, so this direction is less straightforward if you are still gathering gear. A community question about whether Rafa can keep up in UVH7 without highly optimized equipment reflects a real player concern, but it does not prove that any specific build is or is not viable at that difficulty.

The Borderlands 4 Wiki roundup describes a Sniper Rafa setup using Bullet-Buddy Deluxe and Peacebreaker Cannons for True UVH6 mobbing, with safety favored over clear speed. It also labels Grandmaster a balanced option and Supediore a level-60 farming step. These are useful archetype signposts, but the roundup’s claims are publisher judgments rather than tests independently reproduced here.

What Version 1.6 changed for Rafa
The official Borderlands 4 Version 1.6 patch notes, dated April 30, 2026, say Rafa’s high-tech passives are more reliable. They also list these Rafa-specific changes:
- Dancer Overdrive bonuses increased by 50%.
- Buster has a greater chance not to consume APOPHIS Lance charges.
- Filántropo cooldown decreased.
- Esgrimidor critical hit chance increased.
Those changes make older class-mod rankings particularly unsuitable as timeless advice. Version 1.6 is the official update established here, not a complete live balance audit for October 2026; check later official notes if available before committing to exact gear rankings. The same patch notes mention Pearlescent gear part-pool adjustments intended to make new drops more consistent, but that broad loot change does not establish a best Rafa loadout.
