There is no official difficulty order for Elden Ring Nightreign’s Nightlords. For a first clear, start with Tricephalos (Gladius), the opening progression gate; after that, choose an unlocked target by checking its expedition profile for weaknesses and matching your party’s weapons and damage types. Save the final Nightlord for after you have several clears and stronger preparation. This is a practical route, not a universal ranking.
How boss order works in Nightreign
An expedition is a three-day run, not a direct selection of a boss fight. Your team explores and builds strength over the first two days, with mandatory night encounters along the way. After the second night, you can face that expedition’s Nightlord on day three. The official gameplay guide and beginner guide describe this structure.

That means “boss order” can refer to the required nightly encounters or to which Nightlord expedition to attempt next. The route below concerns the main Nightlords; it does not prescribe the order of each expedition’s incidental encounters.
Recommended base-game order for a first clear
- Tricephalos / Gladius: Take on the initially available expedition first. Bandai Namco says clearing it unlocks further missions, making it the clearest progression starting point.
- Choose among the other unlocked Nightlords by matchup: There is no source-backed universal ranking that establishes which one is easiest or should always come next. Open each unlocked expedition profile, check the displayed weakness, and pick a target your party can cover with its available weapons and damage types.
- Attempt the final Nightlord after several clears: Treat this as a practical preparation goal, not a claim that every other Nightlord must be defeated in one fixed sequence. More expedition experience gives your team chances to refine its approach before the final challenge becomes available.
Nightlord profiles reveal weaknesses as expeditions unlock, according to Bandai Namco’s beginner tips. Before departing, compare that information with your team’s loadouts and coordinate who can bring a suitable weapon or affinity. A weakness is a useful planning signal, not proof that a particular boss will be easy for every party.

How to pick the next Nightlord
- If you want the clearest progression: Begin with Gladius, then choose from the missions it unlocks.
- If your party has a strong damage-type match: Favor a target whose displayed weakness your group can cover reliably.
- If your group is still learning expeditions: Choose a fight your party is comfortable preparing for rather than treating a supposed online difficulty ranking as a rule.
- If you want to prepare for later fights through rewards: Consider a reward-informed route, but understand that the official sources establish unlocks and mechanics—not a developer-endorsed sequence based on rewards or difficulty.
Nightlord balance and players’ experiences can differ with patches, party composition, and familiarity. No difficulty percentages or universal easiest-to-hardest order are established here.
Where Forsaken Hollows fits
The Forsaken Hollows adds content with its own access requirements, so it is separate from the base-game first-clear route. Bandai Namco’s DLC unlock guide specifies that the relevant content requires defeating Tricephalos and at least one other main-game boss. Requirements vary by content; do not assume that defeating those bosses unlocks every part of the DLC at once.

Where Everdark Sovereigns fit
Everdark Sovereigns are enhanced, more threatening versions of Nightlords—not mandatory steps in a first-clear sequence. Bandai Namco says victories award Sovereign Sigils. Treat them as optional challenge rematches after you are ready for a harder version of a fight, rather than as the next required bosses in the main progression.
