Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If your PS5 headset has no sound, a failed mic, or a wireless connection that keeps dropping, start with the console’s audio settings and mute controls before replacing anything. Then check the headset’s connection, interference, charge, and model-specific reset steps. The controls differ by headset, and Sony notes that not all audio devices work with PS5.
1. Check PS5 audio output and headphone volume
A headset can be connected but receive no sound if the PS5 is sending audio to another device or the headphone volume is low.
- On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the headset as the Output Device. If available, check whether automatic switching is enabled when an audio device is connected. Sony’s PS5 audio output settings explain the relevant options.
- Open Settings > Sound > Volume and raise Headphones volume.
- If your headset offers it, check Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Output to Headphones. The available options and menu wording can vary by headset and system version.
For a wired headset, push the plug fully into the DualSense controller’s headset jack and look for visible cable damage. These are basic physical checks, not a model-specific Sony diagnostic procedure.
2. Check mute state and microphone input
If other people cannot hear you—or you cannot hear voice chat—check the mute controls and the PS5’s selected microphone.

- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- VOLUME WHEEL — Its on-headset control makes it convenient to adjust audio levels without having to fiddle with any system or program settings
- Press the DualSense controller’s MUTE button to restore audio if it is muted. The button can mute the microphone and speakers.
- On the console, open Settings > Sound > Microphone. Confirm the intended Input Device, then use Adjust Microphone Level to check whether the console detects your voice.
- For a PULSE Elite, extend the retractable microphone. Its mute indicator lights when the mic is muted and is unlit when the mic is on.
Sony’s PS5 voice-chat troubleshooting also recommends checking the selected output device and what audio is sent to headphones.
3. Reconnect a wireless headset and check game/chat balance
For a PlayStation wireless headset that is paired but silent, cutting out, or skipping, check the adapter and nearby wireless devices before moving on to a reset.

- PlayStation Link wireless connection for PlayStation 5 consoles, PlayStation Portal remote player and PC / Mac
- Bluetooth 5.0 and 3.5mm audio jack for Mobile devices
- USB Type-C port for charging
- Make sure the USB wireless adapter is firmly connected to the PS5, then power the headset off and on.
- Remove unused wireless adapters and move other wireless devices away from the headset’s adapter. If the problem continues, follow the reset instructions for your exact headset model.
- If sound skips or the connection drops, Sony advises removing USB 3.0 devices from the console. If you cannot remove them, use a USB extension cable to increase the distance between the wireless adapter and those devices. This is troubleshooting advice, not a guarantee that USB devices are causing the issue.
If your PULSE 3D headset plays game audio but chat is too quiet, or vice versa, use its CHAT/GAME controls to adjust the balance. Pressing both together resets the balance. For microphone echo, Sony advises reducing the mic level by two to four notches. See Sony’s wireless headset troubleshooting for its headset-specific instructions.

Charging PULSE 3D, Platinum, or Gold
For the PULSE 3D, Platinum, and Gold models covered by Sony’s wireless-headset instructions, charge from a supported USB device. If charging fails, try another USB port or device and a different USB cable. Sony says those listed models may take up to 3.5 hours to fully charge; that estimate does not apply to every headset.

Resetting PULSE Elite
For PULSE Elite specifically, hold the PlayStation Link button for at least 10 seconds, until the headset powers off, then press the button to turn it on. If the PS Link connection still has problems, Sony recommends updating the PS Link device and adapter software, then pairing again. Do not use these reset instructions for a different model.
When to contact support
If the headset still fails after the relevant checks, contact PlayStation Support or the headset maker. A damaged cable, controller jack, wireless adapter, or battery may need repair or replacement. Sony advises checking with the device maker about compatibility because not all audio devices work with PS5. Its audio settings guidance does not establish compatibility for every headset model.
