“Terran Armada” first appeared to viewers as a phrase hidden in a glitching Starfield anniversary video on September 5, 2025—not as a formal announcement. Bethesda later confirmed Terran Armada as a story DLC and released it on April 7, 2026, alongside the free Free Lanes update. Insider Gaming reported the apparent teaser; Bethesda’s launch overview confirms what it became.

What did Bethesda’s anniversary post tease?

On September 5, 2025, Starfield’s official anniversary message marked two years of exploration in the Settled Systems. The attached short video glitched, and viewers pieced together flashes that appeared to spell “Terran Armada.” Contemporary coverage treated the phrase as a possible name, not proof that Bethesda had announced an expansion. Insider Gaming’s report captured that uncertainty at the time.

That distinction matters: the video was an apparent teaser, while the DLC announcement came later. Bethesda’s April 7, 2026 overview confirmed Terran Armada as a Starfield story DLC and said it was available that day.

What is Terran Armada in Starfield?

Bethesda describes the Terran Armada as members of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective who vanished during the Colony War. They see themselves as Earth’s “true” children and have returned as an advanced military force made largely of robotic soldiers. The DLC threads a new questline through the Settled Systems, where players encounter Delta, a reprogrammed Terran Armada robot companion. Bethesda Design Director Emil Pagliarulo characterizes Delta this way: “He’s not evil,” he says. “But he’s definitely not good.” Bethesda’s overview provides the faction and character details.

When did the DLC come out, and what was included?

Terran Armada launched on April 7, 2026, alongside Free Lanes, a free update for all players. Bethesda’s dated launch page listed the DLC at $9.99 and said PS5 players could get it bundled with the Premium Edition or Premium Edition upgrade. Those are launch-page terms, not a guarantee of today’s store price or availability; check the relevant platform store for current offers. Bethesda’s launch overview is the source for the date, price and bundle information.

Beyond the questline and Delta, Bethesda lists repeatable Incursions, new Terran ships and ship modules, weapons, suits and attire, and an Elite Crew mini-bot among the DLC additions.

How do Terran Armada Incursions work?

Incursions are repeatable combat events spread through the Settled Systems. Some advance the story; others are optional encounters that reward exploration. The Starmap marks them, so players can choose whether to approach or avoid an event. Bethesda says optional Incursion frequency can be adjusted in Gameplay Options.

The encounters vary in scale and setting. In a March 17, 2026 Xbox Wire interview, Lead Creative Producer Tim Lamb said Incursions can take place in space or on planetary surfaces. Smaller events may involve patrols, scouting parties or drop pods; larger ones can call for infiltrating Terran vessels such as robot assemblers, assault ships or landing platforms. Xbox Wire’s developer interview explains the encounter types and navigation mechanics.

  • TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
  • EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
  • CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
  • DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
  • LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.

Why can’t you always jump away?

Terran technology can create an area of influence that blocks grav-drive jumps within a star system. In those situations, players may need to use Cruise to reach an Incursion—or to steer clear of it. As Lamb put it, “Players will have to utilize the ability to Cruise to approach or avoid the Incursions.” The Starmap helps locate events, but avoiding one can still mean navigating out of its influence rather than instantly jumping away.

What is the practical difference between story and optional events?

  • Story Incursions: Some are part of the DLC questline, so engaging with them can be necessary to progress.
  • Optional Incursions: These let you choose whether to take on extra encounters and their exploration rewards; their frequency can be tuned in Gameplay Options.
  • Either type: Check the Starmap and weigh the encounter against the possibility that Terran technology will restrict grav-drive jumps nearby.

Is there a short film connected to the DLC?

Bethesda published Ab Astris Ad Terram, an animated anthology short on April 6, 2026. The studio says it leads directly into the opening of the Terran Armada story. Bethesda’s page for the short describes its connection to the DLC.
