If Astro Bot crashes, freezes, or will not launch on your PS5, start by updating the game and console, then restart the console. If that does not help, check the save and installation, and reserve Safe Mode steps for persistent problems. These are general PlayStation troubleshooting steps—not confirmed fixes for a known Astro Bot-specific defect.
Start with the game and PS5 updates
- Check for an Astro Bot update. From the PS5 home screen, highlight Astro Bot, press the Options button, and choose Check for Update.
- Check for a system software update. Use the PS5’s system software update option, or follow PlayStation’s PS5 system software update instructions.
- Restart the console. After updating, restart the PS5 and try the game again. If it is a digital copy that has not finished downloading or installing, wait until installation is complete before launching it.
PlayStation recommends updates and restart steps in its guidance for game freezes or crashes and game-start problems.
Check whether the save or installation is involved
Test the save carefully
If Astro Bot opens but crashes during play, a save-related test may help narrow down the problem. PlayStation suggests trying the game without an existing save; Insomniac’s general PS5 crash guidance suggests making a manual save and loading it. These are diagnostic options, not guaranteed recovery methods. Preserve or back up important save data where possible before changing or removing anything, and do not delete a save unless you understand the consequences.
Reinstall the game if crashes continue
PlayStation recommends deleting and reinstalling a game in relevant crash or launch cases. Reinstall Astro Bot through the PS5’s game management options, then let the download and installation finish before testing again. For a disc copy, inspect the disc and gently wipe it with a clean, soft cloth. If other discs also fail, the issue may not be limited to Astro Bot.

Try display and graphics settings only as optional tests
Insomniac’s general PS5 crash guidance recommends testing Performance versus Fidelity mode and, if needed, temporarily disabling VRR or HDR at the console level. It does not identify these settings as Astro Bot fixes. Change one setting at a time, test the game, and restore your preferred setting if it makes no difference.
Use Safe Mode only after simpler steps
PlayStation’s game-start guidance includes updating system software through Safe Mode and using Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. These are later troubleshooting steps, not routine first actions. Insomniac’s general guidance warns that rebuilding the database may result in local data loss and recommends contacting PlayStation Support before attempting it. Consider that caution and protect important data where possible before proceeding.

Know when to contact support
- Only Astro Bot is affected: PlayStation’s crash guidance says, “If the issue only affects one game, please contact the game publisher to see if there are any known issues with the game.” You can also contact PlayStation Support.
- Several games crash, the console shows an overheating warning, or the PS5 cannot be used: Contact PlayStation Support for help investigating the console.
- Before you contact support: Note any error code and whether the problem occurs in Astro Bot only or in other games too. That information helps describe the scope of the issue.
Is there a confirmed Astro Bot crash bug?
The reviewed official Team Asobi announcements describe Astro Bot content updates, but do not identify a current crash issue or explicitly say that an update fixed crashes. That means there is no basis here to claim a widespread current bug, a particular level as the cause, or a specific patch as the solution. Check for the latest game update and ask the publisher or PlayStation Support about an issue that remains isolated to Astro Bot. Individual community reports describe freezes, shutdowns, and save problems, but anecdotes do not establish how common those problems are or what causes them.
