Hopetown is an upcoming narrative RPG from Longdue, a studio whose contributors include members of the Disco Elysium writing team. Its Kickstarter campaign raised £147,311 from 3,355 backers against a £25,000 goal, but the game remains unreleased, with no announced release date.
What is Hopetown?
Longdue describes Hopetown as a story-rich isometric RPG set in a mining town facing collapse. You play a rogue journalist investigating a crisis in which people have been killed or gone missing and mining operations have stopped. The story is shaped by the choices you make and the words you publish. Longdue’s official site presents it as a new setting and set of systems informed by the broader legacy of narrative role-playing games.

Steam’s description places the story in New Greenwich, an island town in a world reshaped by “The Flare,” a coronal mass ejection that destroyed global communications decades earlier. The ensuing era is called “The Hush.”
Why is it called a Disco Elysium spiritual successor?
The label points to creative lineage and shared ambitions, not a direct continuation. Longdue’s Kickstarter FAQ says Hopetown is not specifically intended to honor one game. Instead, it names qualities associated with Disco Elysium—psychological complexity, intelligent storytelling, rich interiority, and consequential conversations—as touchstones for its own project. That makes “spiritual successor” a useful description of the creative connection, but not a promise that Hopetown will reproduce Disco Elysium’s characters, world, or exact design. Longdue is building a separate story around journalism, investigation, and the social consequences of publishing.
How does its journalism and psychogeography work?
Investigation combines evidence gathering with interviews, photographs, and observations recorded in a notebook. The player can pursue investigative, sensationalist, or vogue approaches to writing, while branching conversations and published work affect how characters and factions respond.

Hopetown also describes a psychogeography system in which emotions, memories, conversations, and relationships can function as tools. These influences may unlock doors, change landscapes, or shift social outcomes, tying the protagonist’s inner life and relationships to the world rather than keeping them separate from exploration.
Who is making Hopetown?
Steam lists Martin Luiga, Veljo Hagu, Olga Moskvina, Piotr Sobolewski, and Lenval Brown among the game’s creators. Longdue says Luiga, a founding member of the ZA/UM Cultural Association and writer of seven characters in Disco Elysium, is sharing his experience to help shape Hopetown’s narrative and systems. Longdue also quotes Piotr Sobolewski describing his work overseeing a 15-person team credited with “saving” Disco Elysium, which worked on the game for nearly six years before and after release.

The team connection is meaningful context, but it does not establish that the full Disco Elysium team is making Hopetown or that Longdue has the rights to continue that game. The project is presented as an original RPG by Longdue.

When and where can you play Hopetown?
There is no release date yet. Steam lists the date as “to be announced” and the game as not yet available. The Kickstarter FAQ identifies PC as the main development platform and says PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are planned. Mac, Linux, and other consoles are described as aspirations, not confirmed launch platforms.
The FAQ names Unity as the engine. English, Russian, and Simplified Chinese are planned for launch; French, Italian, German, and Spanish are hoped for later. Voice acting is planned, with the FAQ saying additional funding could expand its scope. These are stated plans, not a confirmation of final launch features.
What legal context has Longdue disclosed?
In its Kickstarter FAQ, Longdue says a court ordered a former team member not to use confidential Hopetown information for a venture until early 2025, following a contract dispute. That is Longdue’s account of the matter; the FAQ supports the existence of the described order, but it should not be read as an independent account of the wider dispute.
