Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf your PS5 controller’s PS button is not responding, reset the DualSense and reconnect it to the console with the USB cable supplied with the controller. If that does not help, update the PS5 system software if you can operate the console, then contact PlayStation Repairs if the problem persists. PlayStation does not publish a guaranteed fix time, so there is no reliable basis for promising a three-minute solution.
Reset the DualSense and reconnect it to your PS5
- Turn off the PS5. PlayStation’s reset procedure begins with the console turned off.
- Find the reset button. Turn the DualSense over and locate the small reset hole on the back, beside the Sony logo.
- Hold reset for at least five seconds. Use a pin or similar tool to press the recessed button. The tool is not included with the controller.
- Connect the controller by USB. Use the USB cable supplied with the controller, then press the PS button. PlayStation also recommends USB for first-time pairing and reconnecting a controller. See PlayStation’s DualSense troubleshooting instructions and controller support guidance.
If the PS button still does not work
Update PS5 system software if you can use the console
Install the latest PS5 system software available. DualSense controller device-software updates are delivered with PS5 system software updates. If you can navigate the console, the manual controller update path is Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. PlayStation also provides a PC update option through the PlayStation Accessories app.
Use PlayStation Repairs if reset and reconnection fail
If the controller still will not connect or respond after resetting and reconnecting it, use PlayStation Repairs. A nonworking PS button alone does not establish whether the cause is the button or another controller fault.
Do you need another cable or a repair tool?
Start with the USB cable supplied with the controller. If it is missing or damaged, use a USB cable compatible with the DualSense that supports data; a cable used only for charging may not serve the reconnection and pairing steps. A pin or similar tool is enough to press the reset button, and PlayStation says that tool is not included. These steps do not establish that you need to buy a replacement cable, repair kit, or controller.
