Forgotten Shores’ final four chapters are Appendix V — The Lost Falls, Appendix VI — The Citadel of Deceit, Appendix VII — The Oubliette, and Appendix VIII — Nocturne. The key is to use switches and levers to reveal or reposition routes, and to treat the totem as a platform, counterweight, bridge, and switch activator. This walkthrough follows the chapter order and explains the important moves in each puzzle.

Appendix V — The Lost Falls

The Lost Falls builds from simple switch activation into careful use of the totem as a weight and moving platform. Keep Ida and the totem positioned where the next lift or walkway can use them.

  1. Guide Ida to the first switch to reveal the totem. Use the lever to rotate the totem and help Ida cross the falls. If the lever disappears, move Ida onto the grassy area to make it available again.
  2. Place the totem on the next switch, then guide Ida up the stairs to another switch. Put the totem on the top switch to open the door.
  3. When Ida appears at the top, position the totem beneath the platform holding the next door. Send Ida back through the door so she can reach that route, then use the totem on the last switch to raise the next section.
  4. Use the totem as a weight on the walkway. Once Ida steps onto it, position it so she can walk across it after the lift rises.
  5. Put Ida on the second lift and the totem on the first. The totem’s weight raises Ida to the door; then move it to activate the next switch.
  6. After Ida activates the first switch, move the totem onto the platform before taking her away from the switch. Slide the totem up or down to help Ida reach the next switch.
  7. Use the totem to get Ida to the next door. She can reach its top from the second platform; slide the totem across to the door.
  8. Activate the next two switches with the totem, then guide Ida to the third switch.
  9. Place the totem beneath the lifted rock to keep it from falling. Guide Ida to the next door to finish the chapter.

Appendix VI — The Citadel of Deceit

This chapter changes Ida’s route and orientation by rotating the central walkways and using doors to move between views. If a path seems to lead the wrong way, use a door transition or rotate the walkway rather than assuming the layout is fixed.

  1. Move the middle walkway sideways to take Ida across and through the first door. Repeat the sideways movement to reach the first switch.
  2. Use the middle walkway again to raise Ida to the next door.
  3. Rotate the walkway with the lever to put Ida on the upper route, then rotate it again to reach the next door.
  4. Ida appears upside down. Use the nearby switch, then spin the newly revealed lever to move the stairwell and descend to the next door.
  5. Guide Ida to the upper-left door, then use the next door in the adjacent view.
  6. From the top, take the upside-down route directly below and move right to the next door.
  7. Flip the switch outside that door, enter the left door, walk down, and use the bottom-left door.
  8. Flip the final switch to complete the appendix.

Appendix VII — The Oubliette

The Oubliette connects colored rooms through rotation. Its sequence involves moving Ida between rooms, controlling the water level, and revealing a tree that enables the final switch.

  1. Flip the first switch to reveal the orange landscape. Follow its winding path to the second switch, which enables rotation of the whole landscape.
  2. In the purple room, use the central pole and bottom door. Rotate back to the orange room to activate its remaining switch; then keep rotating until Ida is visible and send her to the top door.
  3. In purple, turn the central pole to move Ida to the top door. Rotate to reveal the green room and use its middle staircase to reach the next switch.
  4. Put Ida on the black platform and rotate until the next green room appears. Turn the right-hand lever until the water is at its lowest level.
  5. Return to the black platform and keep rotating until the yellow room appears. Hit the bottom switch, then rotate the middle platform into the position needed for the route ahead.
  6. Enter the indicated door. In the pink room, guide Ida to the top door.
  7. Tap the bottom door in pink and keep rotating until a tree appears. Continue rotating until the tree grows enough for Ida to reach the bottom switch.
  8. Pull the top of the level downward to reveal the ending.

Appendix VIII — Nocturne

Nocturne is about recovering submerged totem pieces, stacking them, and then separating the stack across a four-arm platform. Use the level’s perspective tricks to make pieces line up or move between surfaces.

  1. Go right to recover the first totem piece. Use the switches to lower it after pulling it from the water.
  2. Return and go downward for the next piece. Use the shown area to get Ida off the top of the piece so she can reach the next switch.
  3. Keep Ida on the switch while moving back and forth like a seesaw to retrieve the submerged piece. Stack the recovered pieces.
  4. Slide a totem piece onto the next switch. Return one piece to the main area; when Ida leaves the switch, raise the recovered piece and bring it over.
  5. At the top, position the totems before sending Ida to the rotation platform. Recover the third piece and stack it using the optical-illusion alignment. If Ida blocks the arrangement, move her down the stairs.
  6. Bring the three-piece stack to the next position. Slide the first piece outward, put Ida on the rotation block, and activate the switch. Use the lever that appears to reposition the piece.
  7. Slide the piece under the water to retrieve the final piece. Use the lever, stack all four pieces, and guide Ida to the switch.
  8. On the four-arm platform, use the perspective alignment to separate the stack and place one piece on each arm.
  9. Keep Ida climbing while guiding the totem to the top to complete the chapter.

Is Ida missing in The Oubliette?

No. Ida’s absence is an intentional part of the puzzle, not evidence of a broken save. The official FAQ reassures players: “Nothing is broken, Ida is safe, sound and simply waiting for you to solve the puzzle.” Read the official Monument Valley FAQ.
