Fortnite is available on the U.S. iPhone and iPad App Store now; Epic’s submission to Apple for review was a May 2025 event, not a pending request. Epic’s May 16, 2025 court filing said it submitted one version on May 9, withdrew it, and submitted an updated version on May 14. The game returned to the U.S. App Store later that month, and Epic said in May 2026 that Fortnite was back on App Stores worldwide, with Australia still an exception at that time.
Can you download Fortnite on an iPhone in the U.S.?
Yes. Apple’s U.S. App Store listing currently shows Fortnite as available, names Epic Games Inc. as the developer, and lists iPhone and iPad compatibility. Availability and device requirements can change, so check the listing on the device and storefront you plan to use.

What happened after Epic submitted Fortnite for review?
May 9, 2025: Epic’s first submission
In a court filing submitted May 16, 2025, Epic said it submitted a version of Fortnite for U.S. App Store distribution on May 9. According to Epic, that build included Apple’s in-app purchase mechanism and a link to the Epic Games Store, where Epic said it offered 20% back on purchases.
May 14–16, 2025: An updated build and a dispute
Epic’s filing says it withdrew the first build because it had become stale ahead of an intended global content launch, then submitted an updated version on May 14 to meet a planned May 16 release timeline. Epic also said Apple told it on May 15 that Apple would make no determination until after a Ninth Circuit ruling on Apple’s request for a partial stay, and that Apple had not identified a guideline violation. Those are Epic’s claims in litigation, not neutral findings about every disputed issue.

Contemporaneous Associated Press reporting described the disagreement: Apple asked Epic Sweden to resubmit without the U.S. App Store storefront, while Fortnite said Apple had blocked its submission. That account concerns the May 2025 episode, not current availability.
May 2025: Fortnite returns to the U.S. App Store
The Associated Press reported on May 20, 2025, that Fortnite had returned to the U.S. iPhone App Store and that Apple said the dispute preventing the return was resolved. This is the outcome of the historical submission story: the game is no longer waiting for that review.

May 2026: Epic reports wider availability
In an announcement dated May 19, 2026, Epic said, “Fortnite is now back on the App Store worldwide,” while adding, “We’ve not returned to the Australia App Store yet.” That statement establishes Epic’s reported status on that date; it does not establish that availability in Australia changed later.
What does App Store review status tell you?
Apple says App Review applies to each app version and related material, including in-app purchases, subscription offers, and Apple-hosted asset packs. Apple also says, “Submissions may not be reviewed in the order you submit them.” Versions for different platforms are submitted separately, so a submission for one platform does not itself establish approval for another.

Apple’s review-status guidance lists stages such as Waiting for Review, In Review, and Unresolved Issues. A submission alone therefore does not mean an app has been approved or rejected. Apple states a goal of reviewing at least 50% of submissions in less than 24 hours and 90% in less than 48 hours. Those are general service goals, not guarantees for an individual submission or reported wait times for Fortnite.
