For a current bow-focused build in No Rest for the Wicked, start with a bow whose requirements and moveset suit you, pair it with a quiver that supports your damage plan, and leave enough stamina, Focus, and defense to handle enemies that close the gap. There is no established universal best bow or point-by-point stat spread. This guide reflects the Together Early Access ruleset; Moon Studios has announced a class redesign for a December 2026 open beta, but has not yet published enough detail to define a future Archer-class build.

How the current bow system works

In the Together ruleset, bows occupy the main-hand slot, not the off-hand slot as in older advice. Bows also differ in normal, running, and rolling attacks, so the weapon’s feel matters alongside its stats. The January 22, 2026 Together update notes describe the changes, including new bows, runes, and enemy responses to ranged combat.

Quivers change the projectiles fired by basic bow attacks:

  • Blasting: explosive arrows.
  • Freezing: frost arrows.
  • Shocking: lightning arrows.
  • Blighted: blighted arrows.

These are different tools, not a proven universal ranking. Choose for the damage coverage and combat problems your setup needs.

Choose a bow for your stage and playstyle

The available evidence supports conditional candidates, not a definitive tier list. The requirements below come from an independent guide’s weapon records checked against Together Hotfix 9; they are not official studio rankings.

Bow Listed requirements Why consider it What to keep in mind
Short Bow 10 Dexterity A lower-requirement baseline; the guide also notes Skyfall Shot. A low requirement alone does not establish that it is the best beginner choice. Try its attacks and rune costs.
Balak Talon 23 Dexterity, 23 Faith A mobile, multi-arrow candidate. Its evidence does not establish a fixed tier or universal advantage.
Twinkling Short Bow 23 Dexterity, 23 Intelligence A candidate for experimenting with elemental damage. Its evidence does not establish a fixed tier or universal advantage.
Lacquered Bow 36 Dexterity Its Hunter’s Mark effect rewards varied elemental damage and makes it a promising high-investment rotation candidate. It asks for substantial investment and does not come with a proven best gear package or comparative performance ranking.

Requirements and candidate descriptions are from the No Rest for the Wicked Wiki Editorial Team’s bow guide, updated September 8, 2026. Before committing, test the normal, run, and roll attacks: the official notes confirm that bow handling varies by weapon.

A high-investment option: Lacquered Bow and elemental rotation

Lacquered Bow is worth considering if you can meet its listed 36 Dexterity requirement and want to rotate through different elemental damage. The official Together notes say that dealing different elemental damage builds Hunter’s Mark for eight seconds. Stacks raise critical chance and reduce stamina cost; at four stacks, the effect also increases physical damage. The dated bow guide records Fire Arrow, Ice Arrow, Lightning Arrow, and Plague Arrow runes for this bow.

This is a build direction, not a best-in-slot verdict: maintaining varied elemental damage, paying rune costs, and fitting the rest of the gear together all matter. The available sources do not provide official comparative testing that proves this setup outperforms alternatives.

Plan attributes and resources without a fake stat formula

No established source supports one exact Strength, Dexterity, Health, Stamina, or Focus allocation that works for every stage and gear set. Use these decisions instead:

  1. Meet the weapon requirement. Then consider the bow’s scaling before adding more points to a damage attribute.
  2. Reserve stamina for movement. Shots and repositioning both draw on your ability to act; do not spend every opening attacking if you will have no escape when an enemy advances.
  3. Budget Focus for runes. Use a rune only if you can afford its cost and it solves a real problem, such as managing groups or creating space.
  4. Keep enough defense for close range. Ranged attacks do not prevent enemies from reaching you, especially in a tight room or with a short firing lane.
  5. Recheck armor tradeoffs. The Together notes say heavier armor brings a larger stamina-regeneration penalty, while lighter armor brings a larger Focus-gain bonus. Balance those effects against the protection your build needs.

Choose quivers and runes around the whole loadout

Start by deciding whether your setup needs explosive, frost, lightning, or blighted basic projectiles. For Lacquered Bow, elemental variety supports Hunter’s Mark; for another bow, the useful choice may instead be the damage type or combat effect that fills a gap. No reviewed source establishes a strongest named bow-and-quiver pairing.

Rank #4

Patch history affects rune advice. The bow guide reports that Patch 1 reduced Multishot damage, raised Skyfall Shot’s Focus cost to 100, increased Arrowstorm’s area and damage radius, and increased the run-attack stamina costs for Siren’s Call and Pale Ash. Those changes are not, by themselves, proof that any of those runes is either unusable or best. Check the current in-game cost and fit it to your available Focus and stamina.

Together added six bows—Answered Prayer, Balak Talon, Fungus Strung Bow, Siren’s Call, Twined Recurve Bow, and Twinkling Short Bow—and six bow runes—Skyfall Shot, Glideburst, Flipkick Burst, Skyburst Volley, Retreating Shot, and Skybreaker. The update also reworked Lacquered Bow’s Hunter’s Mark.

Positioning: manage range, gravity, and the gap

Patch 1 introduced distance-based damage reduction and projectile gravity, but the official notes do not give an exact falloff distance or curve. Do not assume a shot deals the same damage at every range. Keep a clear firing line, watch the route behind you, and move before an enemy gets into attack range. Try your intended bow and quiver at more than one distance so you understand how the setup behaves.

Ranged combat is not a guarantee of safety. Together added anti-range abilities to some enemies and made some more aggressive against ranged attackers. Build in a close-range answer—such as a movement rune, a short reposition, or a defensive option—and avoid spending stamina or Focus so freely that you cannot respond when the gap closes.

Version changes that invalidate older advice

  • Together, January 22, 2026: bows became main-hand weapons, acquired weapon-specific handling, and gained compatibility with projectile-changing quivers. Some enemies gained anti-range abilities or more aggressive ranged behavior.
  • Together Hotfix 8, April 10, 2026: ranged and spell attacks no longer trigger Thorns. Older advice that relies on bow attacks activating Thorns is outdated. See the official Together notes and Hotfix 8 notes.
  • Together Hotfix 9: the independent bow guide says its weapon records were checked against this later data version; its requirements and recommendations are not official rankings.

Moon Studios announced on September 18, 2026 that its new class system will have 24 classes, more than 280 traits, six trait slots, and six factions. The studio says all 24 classes will be available in the December open beta and promised a deeper look in October. These are announced future details, not a complete current Archer build or a final 1.0 balance guide. The studio currently lists version 1.0 for March 2027, after moving the launch from October 2026. See Moon Studios’ class-system announcement for the schedule and announced figures.

Until the class details are published, treat this as a bow setup for the current Together Early Access ruleset, not a build mapped to future class traits.
