To level Weaponsmithing in Pax Dei, choose a repeatable recipe you can afford, prepare its full materials chain, and move to higher tiers when your recipes, skill, and workbench support them. Bronze → iron → wrought iron → steel is a useful route to consider, not a guaranteed optimal sequence: recipe availability and crafting XP have changed, so check current in-game values before committing scarce materials.
What to craft next to level Weaponsmithing
Start with the recipes currently available to you, rather than following a fixed level-by-level list. Compare difficulty, required station, component prerequisites, ingredient cost, and the XP shown in game. The Pax Dei Database lists Weaponsmithing recipes and a skill cap of 40; its displayed snapshot is version 48.17.4901+5453.174901, last updated September 11, 2026. Recipe data can change, so confirm a specific recipe in your current game.

- Check your recipe list. Note the recipe’s difficulty, station, ingredients, and any prerequisite items or discovery requirements.
- Pick a repeatable craft. Choose one whose difficulty and material cost are manageable for your current skill and inventory. Compare the in-game XP and likely input cost rather than assuming the easiest recipe gives the best return.
- Prepare inputs before a crafting run. Smelt the required ore into ingots, keep charcoal available, and make prerequisite parts such as nails, spikes, or stocks when the recipe chain calls for them.
- Step up when ready. Move into a higher material tier once you can access the recipe, meet its station and component requirements, and supply its inputs without excessive risk.
A 2025 third-party guide recommends a broad progression from bronze to iron, wrought iron, and steel. It describes wrought iron as potentially becoming relevant in the late teens, but says timing depends on prerequisite unlocks and bench upgrades. Treat that timing as a rough pointer, not a breakpoint that applies to every character or current recipe list. See the AllThings. How Weaponsmithing guide for that older route advice.
How Patch 1.2 changed XP decisions
Mainframe Industries’ official Verse 5 Patch 1.2 notes say crafting XP is based on the materials and effort involved. Finished items now grant significantly more XP than before, while component crafting often grants less. The notes also say failed recipes grant up to 4× more XP than before and trivial recipes grant 3× more XP than before. These are relative changes from the previous system, not a recipe-by-recipe XP table or proof that intentionally failing a craft is worthwhile.

Because those changes alter the incentives described in older leveling guides, compare the current XP display, difficulty, failure risk, material cost, and time for the options available to you. No single fastest recipe or universally best XP-per-resource route is established by the available figures.
Which Weaponsmithing workbench do you need?
Workbench names and progression stages should not be conflated. The 2025 AllThings. How guide distinguishes a Basic Weaponsmith Workbench from a Weaponsmith Workbench, and says its full bench is generally available to place at Weaponsmithing level 15. Current database terminology also includes an Artisan Weaponsmith Workbench. The level-15 claim comes from the older guide; it does not establish the current requirement for an Artisan bench. Check the station requirement shown in game.
Rank #2
- Used Book in Good Condition
The database’s Artisan Weaponsmith Workbench recipe page is marked version 47.17.3528+5411.173528, older than its current skill-page snapshot. That recipe page lists difficulty 21 and requires one Artisan Weaponsmithing Tool, four Fine Wood Beams, and six Fine Wooden Planks. Verify those details against the current recipe screen before gathering materials.
Why a recipe may be missing
Having the expected skill level may not be enough to reveal or craft a recipe. Check these likely blockers before assuming your progression is broken:
Rank #3
- Historical real-time strategy game set in ancient Rome
- 6 active Roman political factions, represented by up to 6 players
- Dozens of opponents to select among the 100+ nations represented
- Map of ancient Europe with multiple zoom levels and 4 different map modes
- 10 different historical scenarios and over 150 historical events
- Wrong station: You may be using the Basic Weaponsmith Workbench where the recipe requires another station.
- Missing prerequisite craft: Some recipes depend on refined components, including parts such as nails or spikes.
- Undiscovered recipe: A recipe may require discovery rather than appearing automatically at a particular skill level.
- Changed recipe data: Guides and database pages can reflect different game versions. Confirm the live requirement in game.
When to move from iron to wrought iron or steel
Advance by readiness, not by a universal skill threshold. A higher tier is practical when the recipe is available, its station and component chain are in place, and you can afford the inputs if the craft fails. The older progression guide’s bronze-to-iron-to-wrought-iron-to-steel route is directional; official crafting-overhaul notes describe more layered ingredient chains at higher tiers and continued uses for some early-tier items. Those notes also announced that almost all existing crafted gear, including weapons, would be phased out and replaced with newly designed items. Treat that announcement as context for why older recipes may not match today’s game, and verify current recipes in the game or database.
Before committing scarce refined materials, check that you have the necessary ore, ingots, charcoal, wood components, and prerequisite parts. If the higher-tier attempt is too costly or difficult, return to a manageable craft while you build the inputs or meet the unlock requirements.
Rank #4
A practical comparison before crafting
- Difficulty: Is the recipe a reasonable match for your current skill and recent crafting outcomes?
- XP versus inputs: What XP does the game show, and how many materials and upstream crafts does the recipe consume?
- Time and supply: Can you sustain the required smelting and component production?
- Station and unlocks: Do you have the correct workbench, prerequisites, and recipe discovery?
- Tier readiness: Are you prepared to spend the refined materials the next tier requires?
The official crafting-changes overview describes a tiered system with more involved ingredient chains at higher tiers. Use it as system context, but rely on the current recipe screen for the actual requirements in your version.
