If NBA 2K24 closes unexpectedly on your PS4, start by fully shutting down the console, then check for system and game updates. If the crash continues, work through the steps below in order. They are general PlayStation troubleshooting steps recommended by 2K—not confirmed NBA 2K24-specific fixes or guaranteed cures.
1. Fully shut down and restart the PS4
Close NBA 2K24, then use the PS4 power menu and select Turn Off PS4. Do not leave the game suspended in Rest Mode. Once the console has completely powered down, wait 10–20 seconds, then turn it back on and try the game again. 2K recommends this power cycle for basic console issues and as its PS4 cache workaround. 2. Check for PS4 system software updates
From the PS4 home screen, open Settings → System Software Update and follow the prompts if an update is available. Updating may require an internet connection. Menu wording can vary with system software versions, so follow the current prompts on your console. 2K includes checking for system updates in its console troubleshooting advice.
3. Check for an NBA 2K24 update
Open the Game Library, highlight NBA 2K24, press the controller’s Options button, and choose Check for Update. Install any available update before launching the game again. 2K also recommends checking the game version when troubleshooting PlayStation crashes; see its PlayStation crash guidance.

4. Note exactly when the crash happens
Try to identify whether NBA 2K24 closes at launch, in one particular mode, or after a specific action. Write down what you were doing immediately before it happened and, if known, which game patch was installed when the issue began. This does not diagnose the cause, but it gives 2K Support concrete details to investigate. Do not assume that a repeatable crash proves a known mode-specific bug.
5. Use PS4 Safe Mode repair options carefully
Safe Mode includes troubleshooting tools for console storage and system software. Back up your save data before using repair options, as 2K advises, and read each on-screen description before confirming an action. You will need a USB cable that connects your PS4 controller to the console.

- Turn off the PS4 completely.
- Press and hold the console’s power button. Keep holding it until you hear the second beep, about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller to the PS4 with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Choose the relevant repair or update option from the Safe Mode menu and follow its prompts. 2K’s general guide names Repair Console Storage, Update System Software, and Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. 6. Reinstall NBA 2K24 if simpler steps fail
2K recommends deleting and reinstalling the game as a later troubleshooting step. Before deleting it, make sure you can access the account and library used to install it, or have the game disc available. Then delete NBA 2K24 from the PS4 and reinstall it from the disc or Game Library. You may need an internet connection to download updates or game data. 7. Try an SSD only if you already have one available
2K’s crash guidance suggests trying the game on an SSD if one is available. This can help investigate whether local storage is involved, but the guidance does not establish that an SSD will fix NBA 2K24 crashes on PS4. 8. Don’t confuse the PS4 cache with NBA 2K reserved space
There is no dedicated PS4 menu option to clear the console cache. 2K states, “The PlayStation 4 doesn’t actually have a cache to clear,” and recommends a full power-down and restart instead. Do not follow PS5 cache-menu instructions on a PS4; see 2K’s console cache guidance.

Reserved space is separate from the console cache. For a UserData corruption issue, NBA 2K Support warns against deleting a game’s reserved space: the data must be downloaded again, and interrupting that download can prevent access to online modes or connected files. If NBA 2K24 still closes after these steps, contact 2K Support. Why these steps are ordered this way
Restarting and checking updates are quick and make no deliberate changes to game installation. Safe Mode repair is more involved, so back up saves and follow the console’s descriptions. Reinstalling takes more time and may require redownloading data. The optional SSD step is only useful if you already have access to one. These are general PlayStation troubleshooting recommendations from 2K, not a promise that a particular step will resolve an NBA 2K24 crash.
