Remedy signals that the expansion matters to its shared universe, but it does not spell out a later game’s plot. With CONTROL Resonant now released, the DLC’s Faden tease reads as meaningful franchise context—not a map of the sequel’s events.
What is The Lake House?
The Lake House is a survival-horror expansion for Alan Wake 2, set at an FBC research station on the shore of Cauldron Lake. Experiments at the facility trigger a catastrophe that brings reality into collision with the Dark Place. The story runs parallel to the main game and puts FBC agent Kiran Estevez in the playable lead role, rather than Alan Wake or Saga Anderson. Remedy’s official FAQ describes the setting and timeline; its launch announcement also highlights the Painted enemy and Black Rock Launcher.

That change in perspective is important. Estevez approaches the crisis as an investigator working for the organization that studies paranatural events. The facility, its research, and her professional observations make the FBC—not just the Dark Place—part of the story’s immediate frame.
Does The Lake House connect to Control?
Yes. The connection is explicit: the FBC is central to the expansion, and Remedy’s FAQ answers the question of whether The Lake House expands the Remedy Connected Universe with, “You probably should.” That is an unusually clear invitation to read the events as part of the wider world shared by Alan Wake and Control, rather than as an isolated side story.

The connection also works through perspective. In an Xbox Wire preview published October 17, 2024, Alan Wake 2 co-director Kyle Rowley described how narrative objects and Estevez’s FBC commentary provide context for the facility. The expansion therefore gives players a closer view of how the Bureau interprets and responds to the phenomenon.
What does the Faden reference suggest?
The clearest forward-looking signal concerns the Faden siblings. In the Xbox Wire preview, Remedy communications director Thomas Puha was asked whether the expansion teases a Control sequel. His answer was: “Let’s just say that we’re as excited as anyone in seeing how the story of the Faden siblings unfold in the future…”

That wording invites players to expect the siblings’ story to matter beyond the expansion. It is not a plot synopsis, however, and does not establish which characters appear in a later game, what they do, or how the events at the Lake House cause anything that follows. Those more specific claims need confirmation from the later story, not inference from a teaser.
Does The Lake House set up CONTROL Resonant?
It is fair to call The Lake House future-facing connective tissue: it strengthens the FBC link between the two series and explicitly gestures toward the Faden siblings’ future. Calling it a direct setup for particular events in CONTROL Resonant goes further than Remedy’s comments support.

As of October 7, 2026, Remedy’s official CONTROL Resonant page identifies the game as the sequel to Control and reports a September 24, 2026 launch. Its premise describes Dylan Faden confronting a reality-bending crisis while Jesse is missing. That confirms the Control series has advanced and gives the earlier Faden reference added context; it does not show that The Lake House disclosed the sequel’s specific plot.

Because its events run parallel to the main game, the expansion adds another angle on the larger crisis rather than simply functioning as a post-story continuation of Alan’s or Saga’s journey. Its significance lies in how it broadens the perspective and connections; Remedy’s public comments do not establish a complete chronology of every event across the games.
Do you need to play Control first?
The expansion’s FBC and Faden references are more rewarding if you recognize Control and its place in Remedy’s shared universe. The available official information does not state that playing Control is a requirement, though. The direct access requirement is owning Alan Wake 2; the expansion’s parallel storyline and Estevez’s role provide its own context.

How to access The Lake House
You need a copy of Alan Wake 2 and access to the Expansion Pass. Remedy says the pass is included with digital and physical Deluxe Editions, and that owners of the digital Standard Edition can upgrade to Deluxe. The physical Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the pass containing both Night Springs and The Lake House. Storefront terms can vary by platform and region, so check the current listing for the exact edition and contents.
- From the menu: If your account has the Expansion Pass, select Expansions from the game’s menu and start The Lake House.
- During the main game: In Return 06, ask Estevez for more information to access the expansion in-game.
Remedy’s October 22, 2024 launch announcement lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as platforms.
