Astro Bot’s Winter Wonder update was scheduled to launch on December 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. PT. It was announced as free additional content, but players need the PS5 game and must complete it before the new level appears. The word “today” in the original headline refers to that 2024 launch date, not a new release in 2026.
When did Astro Bot’s Winter Wonder update come out?
Team Asobi announced Winter Wonder on December 11, 2024, with a planned release for the following day, December 12, at 8:00 p.m. PT. The announcement is on the PlayStation.Blog. That date and time are the original launch schedule; Winter Wonder is not a newly launching update today.

Is Winter Wonder free?
Yes. Team Asobi described Winter Wonder as a free additional piece of content for Astro Bot. The add-on is separate from the base game, so players who do not own Astro Bot need the game before they can play the update.
What’s in the Winter Wonder level?
Winter Wonder adds a festive level featuring shiny presents, jingle bells and new special bots to add to the player’s crew. Team Asobi said it was designed as a celebration for children and adults, rather than a punishing challenge; that is the studio’s stated intention, not an independent assessment of the level’s difficulty.

How do you access Winter Wonder?
- Play Astro Bot on PS5 and connect to the internet so the free additional content can be available.
- Complete the game. The Winter Wonder add-on appears after the base game has been completed.
- Open the level once it is available in the game.
Do you need to buy Astro Bot first?
Only if you do not already own it. Winter Wonder is an add-on for Astro Bot, not a standalone game. Sony’s Astro Bot product page identifies the base game as a PS5 single-player 3D action platformer, released September 6, 2024, and developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The page describes the base game as containing over 50 planets and 300 bots to rescue; those figures refer to Astro Bot itself, not Winter Wonder.
