Ubisoft’s March 2026 franchise update announced a free 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Unity on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside a high-level look at selected projects in development. The Black Flag remake teased at the time is now called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: it launched on July 9, 2026. Ubisoft’s roadmap update named projects but did not provide release dates for them.
What changed for Assassin’s Creed Unity on PS5 and Xbox?
Ubisoft announced the free 60 FPS update on March 4, 2026, and confirmed on March 6 that it had arrived for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Ubisoft also specified a 4K update for PS5 and Xbox Series X; it did not state that the 4K update applies to Xbox Series S. The announcement described the patch as a free update for the supported consoles, not a new edition of the game. Ubisoft’s franchise update and its March 6 Unity follow-up provide the official details.
Ubisoft’s follow-up also says Unity is playable at 60 FPS on PC through Ubisoft Store, Steam and Epic Games Store. That is separate from the console patch announcement; the article does not say every PC setup needs a new patch to reach that frame rate. Ubisoft did not publish a performance test or claim that every scene holds a measured frame rate under all conditions.
Black Flag Resynced is out now
Ubisoft’s March update teased a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, originally released in 2013. On April 23, 2026, Ubisoft named it Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, described it as a faithful recreation built with the latest version of the Anvil Engine, and announced a July 9 release. Led by Ubisoft Singapore, the remake launched on July 9 for PS5 and PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Ubisoft’s launch guide also lists streaming services. What Ubisoft’s 2026 Assassin’s Creed roadmap actually says
The March 4 update was a snapshot of selected work, not a dated release calendar. Ubisoft said Shadows was entering its final phase of support as teams shifted more focus toward future projects. It did not announce release dates for the projects below. Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed: Into 2026” update describes them as follows:
- Codename HEXE: Ubisoft Montreal is developing a darker, narrative-driven experience set at a pivotal moment in history. Ubisoft described the project as a unique entry in the series.
- INVICTUS: A PvP multiplayer project progressing with a test-and-learn approach. Ubisoft did not provide a launch date.
- Jade: Named among several other projects in development, without further release timing in the update.
- Potential co-op return: Ubisoft said it was looking into bringing co-op back to the franchise. That is exploratory, not a confirmation of a specific game or feature.
Ubisoft also said it had pivoted away from an early project, but the update’s descriptions do not establish additional titles, settings, or launch years beyond the details above.
