An Xbox One save can continue on a Windows PC if the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere or its publisher offers a separate cross-progression feature. For Play Anywhere games, progress syncs through Xbox when you use the same Microsoft/Xbox account and the compatible PC version. There is no universal way to export an Xbox One save file and import it into any PC release.
How Xbox One saves can continue on PC
The supported route for Xbox Play Anywhere titles is cloud synchronization, not a manual file copy. Xbox says, “When you play a game that supports Xbox Play Anywhere, your game progress is saved with Xbox.” The qualification matters: the feature applies to supported games, not every Xbox One title.

Xbox Play Anywhere covers supported digital games on Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11 PCs. Xbox says progress, add-ons, and achievements follow the player across those supported devices. Microsoft describes cross-progression and cloud game saves as features developers implement for each title, so a PC release alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Xbox reported more than 1,000 Play Anywhere games in its January 21, 2026 update. That is the size of the program at that date, not a count of Xbox One saves that can be transferred to any PC game.

Check whether your game supports the same save
- Find the exact game listing. Check the Xbox Store or Xbox PC app for the Xbox Play Anywhere designation. Xbox’s Xbox Play Anywhere page explains the program and its supported-title scope.
- Confirm the PC edition. Use the compatible Windows/Xbox app or Microsoft Store version indicated for the title. A release on another PC storefront may have a separate save system.
- Check the account. For Play Anywhere, sign in on PC with the same Microsoft/Xbox account used on the Xbox One.
- Launch the game online and allow it to sync. Xbox describes supported progress as saved with Xbox and available on another supported device. The game may need time to retrieve the save.
- If Play Anywhere is not listed, check the publisher’s official support page. Look for cross-progression, cross-save, or account-linking instructions for the exact game, editions, and platforms you use.
Two possible routes, with different requirements

Why a disc, subscription, or cloud save may not be enough
- A disc does not establish PC access. Play Anywhere applies to supported digital titles; owning an Xbox disc does not by itself grant the PC version or prove that saves sync.
- A PC version is not automatically cross-save compatible. The title must support Play Anywhere or its publisher must provide cross-progression.
- Xbox cloud saves are not a universal PC save export. Microsoft’s developer documentation describes cloud and local save handling for game developers; it does not provide a general consumer method to extract arbitrary Xbox One saves and import them into any PC edition. - A subscription listing does not establish save compatibility. Check the specific game and PC edition rather than assuming access through a service makes the Xbox console save usable on PC.
What about older Xbox games newly playable on PC?
On July 22, 2026, Xbox announced PC availability for four original Xbox games through its backward-compatibility initiative: Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. The announcement describes access through Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming; it is a limited set of titles, not evidence that arbitrary Xbox One saves can be copied to PC. If the game shows a save conflict
Pause before choosing which save to keep. An older local save or a newer cloud save may overwrite the version you want, and the correct recovery steps depend on the game and its sync interface. Consult the game’s official support guidance before selecting an option; there is no universal recovery procedure established for every title.

Bottom line
You can continue an Xbox One save on PC only when the specific game supports a compatible cross-progression route. Check for Xbox Play Anywhere first, use the compatible PC edition and same account, or follow the publisher’s instructions for its own cross-save feature. Do not expect a generic USB or manual file-transfer method to work across Xbox games.
