The official PlayStation Store listing names Borderlands: The Handsome Collection as a PS4 release that includes Borderlands 2. Its listed PS4 release date is March 24, 2015. Sony’s listing describes the included games as their “definitive” versions; that is the publisher’s wording, not an independent comparison.
If you own a digital copy
- Sign in on your PS5 using the PlayStation account that owns the game.
- Open Game Library, find the PS4 game, and download it.
Sony’s PS5 backward compatibility support page explains how to install digital PS4 games on PS5.
If you own a PS4 disc
- Insert the disc into a PS5 with a disc drive and install the game and any required updates.
- Keep the disc inserted whenever you play.
A PS4 disc cannot be used on a PS5 Digital Edition, which has no disc drive. For that console, you need a digital license.

Which Borderlands collection includes Borderlands 2?
The Handsome Collection includes Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Compare the contents and your existing license before choosing; current prices and availability vary by region and may change.
The Store listing also identifies a free Ultra HD texture pack and the Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary add-on for The Handsome Collection. These are add-ons, not replacements for the base game. Check the listing for your region to confirm what is available for your copy.
